Dear MEOW... 2002
|
December 27, 2002
Dear MEOW,
We are really settling in together. I can't imagine my home without Peca and Piper (MEOW name Buddy). They are wonderful and affectionate.
Thanks to everyone who helps make it possible to adopt such wonderful companions.
Merry Christmas and Best Wishes in the New Year!

Dear MEOW,
I have enclosed a picture of Binky. You can see how much his coat has grown in. We love him dearly. Thank you so much for the incredible work you do. We couldn't imagine our lives without Binky. He is truly a joy.
Have a wonderful Christmas. Thank you again for your tireless efforts.

Dear friends at MEOW,
The past year has been very eventful - the girl and I moved last month ... I hope we stay here forever. It's a very nice, roomy place and I have lots of space to chase toys and scamper and play. ... Sorry no photo this year. The girl appears to have lost all of our pictures in one of the moves - Sigh.
Here again is a gift to help out all of the cats who haven't found their right people yet. I told the girl that she should give you all of my earnings for the year for guard duty, provision of affection, etc. Merry Christmas to you and all cats in your care.
Love to all,
Katja

Dear MEOW,
Rudolph Valentino (MEOW name Assiniboine) and Charlie Chaplin (MEOW name Waddington) have settled right in as you can tell by the photos. They are a constant delight and we love them dearly. Hamish (MEOW alumni 2001) has accepted his little "brothers" and even gets involved in the odd chase-and-play.

Dear MEOW,
Well after nearly two months, Harley and Snowball are finally coming out of their shell. Snowball, believe it or not, has developed as the more dominant cat. He now loves to be petted, and spends most of his time with us in the living room on the big scratching post in front of the bay window. Harley is still a bit shy. He lets Susan pretty much pet him anywhere, but I can only pet him on the window seat, and in his chair. He joins us more and more in the living room to hang out. Snowball and Harley are still the best of buds and play together all the time (boy, are they noisy). When Snowball's not sitting on the scratching post, he's usually with Harley. Just the other night, Harley actually came onto the bed when we were sleeping ... didn't stay too long, but it was nice to see he's getting more comfortable with us!!
Daron and Susan
Note: Harley and Snowball have feral backgrounds. Although they were growing more confident with people in MEOW's Shelter, they regressed in their new home, not wanting any contact at first. But Daron and Susan hung in there, patiently letting Harley and Snowball adjust to their new surroundings at their own pace. Each and every day the boys made a little progress, small but significant. |

To Buster and all my friends at the shelter,
My Christmas wish for you is that you all find your own homes! The one that I found is pretty neat. I have lots of fur-siblings to play with. My favorite things to do here are race down the hall with Jet, or wrestle with Jasper. I'm still learning to respect my very old sisters. They let me know when they've had enough of me :o) The big brothers that say "woof" are pretty neat too! I can walk all over one of them - she likes it!
... My Mom's enclosed some pictures of me "getting into trouble." Hey, I'm a good boy and never get into trouble! You be the judge, OK?
Love from Karma
P.S. Read

On Saturday, November 16, 2002, Coaxial and I got some new roommates. They don't pay rent; they act as if they own the place; and they keep us up at night as they run around and knock things over. Still, they're our new best friends.
Reggie and Veronica are doing awesome with us. They yell (meow) at us when we haven't petted them enough. :-)

Dear MEOW volunteers,
Thank you for all the good work that you do. Without your caring organization, I would never have found the loving home that I enjoy.
My folks are completely trained now. Actually it did not take them long. As a result, they cater to all my whims and wishes.
God bless you all,
Gypsy

Sid (left) has grown and grown some more in the short time he has lived with us. By the size of his tail and the amount of body under the fur, we guess he has Maine Coon in him. In fact, he weighs more than his 8-year-old "brother", Tiger (right), and Sid is less than 1 year old!

Dear MEOW,
I wanted to write and let you know that Lola (MEOW name Miranda) is doing very well in her new home. She has put on some weight, so she doesn't seem as tiny as she once was! Her tail (which was amputated when I adopted her) is healing nicely, and it certainly hasn't affected her ego.
She is a little wary of new toys, and I have enclosed the picture of her meeting the new ostrich. She eventually gives in and gives him a kiss. Her favorite toy is the honeysuckle wood, which keeps her busy for hours.
Thank you for introducing me to Lola, she's such a sweet cat and I'm really happy to have adopted her.
Sincerely,
Liz

Dear MEOW,
Jet just completed a speedy romp around the house and is now looking out the kitchen window at the snowy scene beyond the glass. I believe he is happy to be in his warm, cozy home.
Jet has been with us now for almost seven months. He is an active, playful, sociable, and incredibly gentle young fellow. He is buddies with his big (feline) sister Cookie, and is much loved and admired by his little (human) sister Tali. We are glad to have him in our family. Thank you for bringing us together.

Dear MEOW,
Ricky is doing very well although he did not like the ride in the car. I don't think I've ever known a kitty to purr so much, as soon as we walk into the room his motor starts up. The whole family has fallen in love with him. Here are some pictures of him.
Thank you.

Dear MEOW,
Here is a picture of Abraham, now Curtis. He is winning over his "big brother" and everyday Jazz accepts him a bit more. ... Yesterday Jazz was on the sofa "digging" in a blanket and every time Curtis got too close he would growl. So Curtis crawled under the blanket and came up under Jazz's paws. He really is adorable.

Alex (MEOW name Ezra) is king of his home and acts like a cat, a dog and a human, depending on his mood. He has his dog roommates in line and he can shake a paw for a treat. And he's learned how to use our big white flushing litterbox! We think Alex is one of a kind.

Voodoo and Schmoo |
September 30, 2002
Dear MEOW Foundation,
When we went to the shelter, to have a look at available cats, I was hoping there would be a clear sign, as to who we were going to adopt, and my wish came true! Voodoo (MEOW name Cowboy) picked us by sitting in Derek's lap every time he sat down. This happened several times, and when Derek was walking around, Voodoo was no where to be found, but when Derek sat on the couch again, Voodoo was just there.
(Read more about
Voodoo's adjustment to his new home and companions.)
Voodoo is finally at a stage where he knows he is loved very much, and completely safe. He is a total lap hog (much to Schmoo's dismay) and will literally spend an entire evening in my lap. He is a lover, not a fighter, and was a lap cat waiting to happen. With a lot of love, and a bit of patience, his personality is shining through, and he has filled our house with love, and given Schmoo (who is 13!) a new playmate. As you can see they really enjoy each other's company, and we are absolutely thrilled to have him in our lives.

Dear MEOW,
I thought you all might get a kick out of this.
I took Sodapop to my brother's house in Swift Current over the weekend. He was an absolute gem in the truck, slept for 97 % of the trip, helping me navigate for the rest of the time (watching for that pesky photo radar!).
We got to Don's house, and he had the spare room all ready for Soda and I. Soda promptly sauntered off the bed, used the litter box, had a drink, and then wandered (literally, wandered!) down to the living room (with the dog in it) and spread right out in front of the TV. See attached picture!!
This was taken - no word of a lie - 20 minutes after we got there! It was the funniest thing I had ever seen! He made himself at home, and the dog didn't come out of the porch all weekend! Soda of course had no manners, he was up on the kitchen table, knocking pictures off of the end tables, and getting hair everywhere! He even decided that he was going to sleep with my brother at night. I am lucky to have such a forgiving brother, and such a great cat!

Dear MEOW,
Thank you so much for the chance at adopting Dakota - MEOW name Diego. He is such a little snuggle bug. Loves to be petted at any chance and I wanted a cat to keep up with Pumpkin and that he does. He's a little go getter that one. My 2 little terrors.
Thanks

Dear MEOW,
We just wanted to send a quick update on Jersey and Nevada. When we got this adorable pair from you, Jersey (the mainly white cat) was a love right off the bat. She was affectionate and would seek out attention from us. But on the other hand, Nevada (her brother, mainly black) was scared and would not let anybody near him. We just accepted Nevada for the way he was and were willing to love him even if he would never let us pet him. Well, finally after much patience and persistence, Nevada is becoming a little more trusting. He will let us pet him and will come around even when we have company in the house. We never thought this day would come and just wanted to share this with you. We have had these two since November of 2000 and are so glad they are a part of our little family!

Here is a photo of Finnigan with one of his "sisters," Angie. Finn's two cat sisters weren't very keen on him at first. But with patience, love and determination, the whole family is getting along great now. How could anyone resist such a cute fuzzy belly?!

These excerpts describe Callie's (MEOW name Peanut) first night in her new home.
Dear MEOW,
... Last night went fabulously! She wasn't really touching her food - so I gave her a taste of my BBQ chicken - and she went wild for it! She doesn't seem to like wet food (she must not have been fed that in her previous home). She already has me laughing ... the first "quirk" I have discovered is that she does not like drinking out of a "cat dish" - or even a bowl. I had just poured myself a tall glass of water, and caught her drinking out of it. She likes it poured up to the top ... and then she doesn't even have to bend down to drink. She just sits tall and "sips" out of it. (It's really something to see!) I seem to have quite the "classy cat"!
She purred almost continously last night - and slept with me on my bed (sometimes on a folded blanket over my feet - sometimes on the pillow beside me). She really likes human contact - and cuddles up right beside me. I didn't have the best night sleep - probably because I was so "aware" of her ... but I absolutely love that she is a snuggly cat! She cried about 3 times last night - but all I had to do was call her, and she would hop back into bed and go to sleep.

Take care,
P |

Hello Everyone!
This is Aspen here -- I'm writing to tell you how things are going in my new home. I was pretty loud the first couple of days, because they wouldn't let me meet my new sister, Nimaue! Meow! Did that ever make me mad! I cried all night and my owners almost wanted to take me back ... it was very sad. But when I got to meet Nimaue, we got along pretty well and I've been happy ever since!
She did eat a lot of food at first, but when she realized I am a shy, polite fella she realized that we can share. I like to lick her face and she doesn't even squirm anymore. We run and jump and play together. I have become very cuddly with people and I sleep with my mom and dad every night, just like Nimaue. I told them to get a bigger bed and I think they agree with me. I even let them cut my nails -- just not all at once. I've put on some weight even though my tummy is a little sensitive because I am nervous. My hair has gotten really soft and I look very handsome! I have included some pictures to prove this. I also have my own scratching post, a new bed, and sometimes I get fresh catnip! It' s pretty sweet! Thanks for finding me my new home. Thank Victoria too, please -- she sent me my first piece of mail! My parents appreciated the nice card. We are all very grateful that MEOW helped us find each other!
Love, Aspen
P.S. Jaimie and Mark say thank you too! |

Hi MEOW,
The only thing wrong with our adopted cat: she is not photogenic. So far she only appears as a black lump. However, we haven't given up hope, one of these days we will mail you a picture.
Just wanted to let you know that we haven't forgotten, also we are extremely happy with Floppy (
MEOW name Corey). She is so absolutely perfect.
With your work at MEOW you not only made Floppy happy, but us as well.

Hello MEOW!
We are happy to update you on
Muggles, now known as Gilbert.
He is a wonderful cat and from the first moment he stepped foot in our house it was like his home. He settled in well. He has been so patient and loving to our 3 very young children.
It is absolutely adorable the way he searches them out to have a cuddle or a rub. He loves to sleep in suitcases and boxes. At present, his new endeavour is to try to sleep in the babies' dresser drawers. He patient awaits the moment that someone will mistakenly leave one of them open.
We are so happy to have Gilbert in our lives and are so thankful that our children have such a loving and patient pet.
Thank you!

Juju discovers catnip! |
August 26, 2002
Dear MEOW,
Juju (MEOW name Josh) is still the coolest cat ever, but I wanted to let you know he has done a normal cat thing and decided not to like the vacuum cleaner. The first few times I used it he just sat and watched, now he just saunters slowly away from it like he couldn't be bothered. ... he's still doing great, eating like a horse and making me laugh on a regular basis. I think I'm going to get him one of those scratching things you hang on the wall because he will pet himself all day with it - he is constantly rubbing on anything he can and purring away.

Francis is growing fast! |
Juju did a neat thing. I brought home a cat that was left near death at our vet clinic - Francis. Juju took to this little helpless guy. He stuck with him like glue. He loved him and comforted him until Francis recovered! Now they're the greatest pals.
