Photo of Loki. July 25, 2002

Dear MEOW,

I adopted Loki (was 'Karen') in December ... Loki is the best cat in the world and I am so happy I found her through your wonderful organization. I have passed your name on to many people! Thanks from both of us!!

Photo of Tucker. July 10, 2002

Dear MEOW Foundation,

I was browsing through your website in February of this year when I noticed a picture and profile for Tucker. He caught my attention right away and I immediately inquired about adopting him. Later the same week he was brought to our home. Our family fell in love with him immediately. You would expect that most cats would run and hide upon arriving at a strange new home, but not Tucker. He took a few steps out of the cat carrier and then proceeded to roll over and lay on his back, very much the same way he was posing in his profile picture on the website. Tucker warmed up to us instantly and before too long he was displaying some of his quirky little habits. You see, Tucker is the cat who thinks he's a dog. Not only does he almost always lay on his back, he also insists on drinking from the toilet bowl and greeting us at the door upon arrival. Another strange quirk is the fact that he is probably the only cat in the world that doesn't like cat treats of any kind.

Tucker has been a wonderful addition to our family. He's a very mellow and laid back fellow who loves to play with his fishing rod cat toy. He enjoys his cat nip and loves to use his scratch post. Above all, he seems to appreciate the fact that he was given a second chance in life and shows us everyday how grateful he really is. Thank you MEOW Foundation for allowing us the opportunity to adopt a most wonderful cat.

Photo of Milo and Cringely. July 10, 2002

Dear MEOW,

Milo has come a long way since we first got him. He was categorized as feral (aka wild). Most people may shy away from adopting a feral cat, but in my experience they are just as loving and kind as any other cat. My first cat was also feral and now he is just a big mush.

Although Milo was very timid when he first came to our home, over time he has become more comfortable to the point where he'll jump up on the couch to sit with the family. Not for long periods of time, but compared to the cat who wouldn't come out from under the bookcase, this is a huge step. He has a 'brother', my first adopted cat whose name is Cringely. They get along quite well. Milo will follow Cringely anywhere and they can often be found cuddled up together or grooming each other on the bed. (See picture).

We are very happy to have found Milo. He's added a great deal to our lives and Cringely's life.

Thank you for helping us find each other.

Photo of Gypsy. July 10, 2002

Dear MEOW,

Gypsy came into our home a very thin, shy girl. She is now a happy, confident cat who likes to show off for visitors. Here she is in her favorite spot soaking up the sunbeams in the sunroom. We love to spoil her and Gypsy thanks us with her love.

Photo of Webster, aka Love Bug. July 10, 2002

(Note: Webster was extremely shy at MEOW's shelter - so shy that many volunteers had never even caught seen him. He was very shy in his new home at first and was especially terrified of the man of the house. It took him well over 6 weeks to become confident in his new home. Now - well, his nickname is Love Bug! What a change!)

Dear MEOW,

... The morning after I signed the adoption papers I woke up to find Webster tucked up against me in bed. Like, who told him??? Since then it has been getting better and better and if he is not in bed with me when I wake up he usually comes in for his morning snuggle as soon as he hears we are awake. He has not yet ventured over to Pat's side of the bed but Pat can now at least pet him most of the time. You would not believe the conversations. Webster talks like crazy and tells us the story of his life regularly but you should really hear him after I've been out for some time. I really get a talking too. I keep telling him I can only understand a few basic commands in Cat but that doesn't seem to deter him one little bit. Maybe I did a little to much talking to him in the early stages and he now thinks that is the thing to do??? Well when you are as handsome as Webster looks alone could carry you but he really is a character and we love him dearly and he even has Pat wrapped around his little furry foot.

... Yesterday my neighbor told me a little story about Webster. She has three indoor cats and told me that Webster sits in the front bedroom window on these hot days and her cats sit in her computer room window. When she was outside working in the garden between our two homes there was Webster meowing and purring at her cats and they were meowing back just like there was a whole conversation going on. I guess I wasn't home when this happened and it must be a recent development as we have just started opening the windows with this hot spell. I have been watching but not seen it myself so maybe it was just a one time thing, but how cute is that?

Keep up the good work,

Alida

Photo of Bailey (MEOW name Dominic). June 27, 2002

Dear MEOW,

When I lived at the MEOW shelter my name was Dominic. Now that I live with my Mom, Linda, and my Grandma, Laurel, I am called Bailey.

I was a bit shy when I first got to my new home but now I am comfortable as can be and have successfully won everyone's heart. My Mom spoils me rotten and I love it. She bought me lots of toys and a very comfy MEOW catbed.

I have a big perch right in front on the window so I can lay in the sun and watch all the goings on in the neighborhood. I talk to my Mom constantly and tell her all the things I see out the window, but she does not seem to understand most of what I am saying, I just don't get it.

I want to say thanks to all the volunteers who took care of me while I stayed with MEOW and also for helping my Mom and I find each other to love. I have also attached a picture of myself in my new home.

Thanks again,

Bailey

Photo of Vivaldi. June 25, 2002

Dear MEOW,

Just wanted to say a big thanks for helping us find our big bundle of joy - Vivaldi. He's doing really well and is a valued and much-loved part of the family. His hair has grown back on his ears, back to his old contented self.

Thanks again,

Vanessa and Scott

Photo of Sodapop. June 18, 2002

Dear MEOW,

I will update you on Sodapop, the apple of my eye! He is the biggest, make-you-laugh-out-loud kind of guy ever! It's been so nice out lately we have been putting on the harness to go for walks. He is just like a dog on that thing, it's unreal! But anyways, he gets those sticky poplar spits off the trees stuck in his man-size paws. So when we get back in the house, it sounds like he is wearing high heels. He shakes his feet like they are wet, so we cuddle in the armchair and spend about 3/4 of an hour clipping them out. He is very patient with me, I think because he'd rather me clip them out than him bite them out - they must taste TERRIBLE! He was biting them out before, but since then he has realized that it saves his tastebuds if I do it for him!

He's got a baby, who he totes everywhere. It is a medium sized stuffed cat, and he loves it. Takes it to bed, brings it on my lap for cuddle time, it is really funny. He's made me laugh out loud on more than one occasion, and I am sure the people that live above me think I am nuts!

June 18, 2002

Here are photos of our beautiful rescued MEOW cats (clockwise from top left - Cassidy, Billy, Scooter and Nikki). They are a great example of how differing cat personalities can live together harmoniously with patience, respect and space.

Nikki is the consumate mom who coddles her cat "kids." Scooter is the bashful melt-your-heart kind of guy. Billy is the happy-go-lucky clown. And Cassidy is the gorgeous prima donna. Our house is now complete and never a dull moment.

Photo of Honey and her chinchilla friend Bear. June 5, 2002

Honey and Bear (a chinchilla) are getting along great and love to play together. In fact, we have to twist tie Bear's cage door to the cage at night as these co-conspirators have discovered how they can open the door by working together and letting him out. We don't want to take the chance on an "accident", despite the fact the two get along great.

Photo of Henry and Vie. June 5 , 2002

Henry (MEOW name Zoey) is a beautiful little girl who loves her new "sister" Vie. When Henry was rescued from the roadside she was very thin and covered in grease. Now she is filling out and her fur is soft and luxurious from lots of brushing. Vie and Henry make a beautiful pair and are great friends. We absolutely love her and she is a great pal to Vie.

Photo of Barney. May 29, 2002

Hi, my name is Barney and I want to tell anyone who is planning a move to a new home a few helpful tricks.

I can be pretty shy and nervous, so a move to a new home is not my idea of fun. My family made it easier for me by keeping me safe away from the movers and open doors. I moved last into the new abode with all my favorite blankets, toys, scratching post, litter box and food. My things stayed with me at all times so things were familiar. Once in my new home, I moved into my parents new bedroom with my gear. I stayed put under the bed for a few days just to make sure all was safe.

Look at me now! I'm brave. I'm relaxed and my tummy needs a rub!

May 17, 2002

Here's Webster in two of his favorite positions in his new home.

Photo of Webster.

Webster likes to play with his back feet against a wall. He gets a better push off that way! From way up high on the plant shelf, Webster gets the best view of everything that's going on.

May 13, 2002

Kat (MEOW name Teko) and Kitty are a great example of how some cats can bond quickly and tightly. When Kitty's family realized he needed a pal, they contacted MEOW and picked Teko (now Kat). Kitty and Kat are now best of companions and are inseparable. They bonded so well in fact that Kitty's beloved "dad", Tom, learned the hard way how protective Kitty got when Kat was upset. Kat was having nothing to do with going in the carrier for her vet appointment. "Dad" got the scratched end of the stick from both cats on that one. Photo of Kat and Kitty, ready for a nap. Photo of Jim. May 9, 2002

Here is Jim lounging in his new condo jungle. "Jim the MEOW dumpster kitty" is now "Jim the gourmand." To heck with any common food, Jim feigns near-death, first thing in the morning or when his family comes home from work, until he gets his special food and tuna juice. Jim's near-death experience in the dumpster enhanced his acting repertoire. And like any superstar, Jim is a real character and well loved.

Photo of Tory. May 7, 2002

This is Tory (MEOW name Chatty), up high to make sure she can see everything and everybody. She like to bat at everything moving on the TV from her favorite spot on top of the entertainment center! And then she likes to curl up on a cozy lap.

Tory is very much a part of the family now. Her new family took her to the photographer's studio for their recent family photograph. They delayed the photo session until Tory was settled in and comfortable enough to go with them to the studio.

Photo of Toonces arriving at work. May 3 , 2002

Toonces is not a MEOW cat, but he is a kindred spirit. His "mom" answered our call for information about cats with jobs. MEOW salutes Toonces - a hard working cat as you can see from these photos!

Toonces was adopted from the Lloydminster SPCA when he was just a baby. He loves his job at Accounting Plus in Cold Lake, Alberta. When people come in, he greets them and gets pets. He usually just works Saturdays when kids come to visit him, but sometimes he attends meetings during the week. When he gets to the office, job one is checking out the food dish and demanding fresh - you can't work without a full tummy. Then he files - any paper is a suitable file to sleep on. After a long day at the office he has to go home and sleep.

Photo of Fletcher and Dania. May 3 , 2002

Fletcher and Dania (MEOW names Benoit and Blanchette) continue to amaze us and bring us a lot of joy. They are definitely part of the family and it's hard to imagine how we ever lived without them. ... We took them on walks in our backyard, with harnesses and leashes, and they loved it, except when the wind blows too hard. Now they ask to go out ...

Thank you so much for bringing these two babies into our lives. We will recommend you to anybody looking to adopt a cat ...

Photo of Roxanne, Angie and Leroy. April 20, 2002

"Let's surf on over to MEOW and see who's still at the Shelter."

Roxanne and her kittens, Leroy and Angie, are delighted with their new family, and the feeling is mutual. Leroy loves playing chase with the 3-year-old son. Angie joins in the chase, but her favorite activity is stalking, pouncing and wrestling her brother. Roxanne is bored with all the ripping around. She likes to be carried, on her back like a baby, and will stay in her "mom's" arms as long as she can.

Photo of Smokey and pal. April 11, 2002

Smokey loves lounging with new "little" friend, Cheyanne. And Zena (MEOW name Rory), although preferring an individual portrait, is also getting along great and having lots of fun with the other two.

Photo of Zachery and Sara.

April 11, 2002

Since Zach came to live with us we have had many adventures. First we had to get Sara (our other kitten) to like him. He took many paw swattings from her. Good thing Zach is so good natured or Sara might have wanted to move out right there. We just moved into a new house which has taken Zach a bit to like. He is not a very active cat and having his litter box at the bottom of the stairs and his food at the top he gave him some concern. When he first got there he stared at the stairs for 20 minutes before deciding to try them out. By this time Sara had decided they were the perfect toy and was running up and down enticing Zach to follow.

Sara and Zach are great entertainment we are so glad they decided to live with us. The lone picture of Zach is how he likes to lay. What a cutey!

Thank you MEOW! from  Shawna and Jason Photo of Zach.

Photo of Patches and Ewol.

April 11, 2002

Just wanted to send an updated picture of Patches (MEOW name Kathy) along with my other cat Ewol. (Ewol is the one trying to fit in the shoebox.) Patches has adjusted very well to her new home. (We have had her since the beginning of December.) And now she even allows me to pick her up for a few minutes. (Before she wouldn't let me get that close.) She is still a bit shy, but everyday she becomes less shy. Her favorite pastime is to take her toy mouse, throw it in the air, and chase it. (It is really funny to watch.) Thank you once again for bringing her into our life.

Photo of Samual and Maxwell. April 8, 2002

Samual and Maxwell (MEOW names Henry and Buck) have really settled into their new home. By agreement, Maxwell patrols the upstairs and Samual controls the lower level. They also sleep that way, but get together for mealtimes, play time and - of course - photo sessions.

Maxwell is an absolute riot ... when you rub his cheek, his rear leg starts thumping in the air, exactly the same as a dog does when you scratch the ribcage. If you switch cheeks, the other leg starts thumping! They are both an absolute delight to their new "parents."

Lady Jane is a perfect lady and very considerate. She helped her new cat housemate - who was very shy - to come out of her shell. Now they are both very comfortable and happy living together.

Dear Meow Foundation,

Spot and Sienna (MEOW name Bandit) are a part of our family. Thank you for rescuing their mother!!!

From Erik

(This photo came in a beautiful card made by Erik, 9. Sister Brooke, 11, added the story below.)

Dear Meow Foundation,

I am really glad that my parents found out about the Meow Foundation. Our family had been looking all over for two cats who had been saved. First we found two kittens who had been found. We found them at the SPCA. After my brother and I spent one hour with the two cats my family decided to adopt them. Then the people at the SPCA said that we could not get them until a certain day. So then we went home. When we got home there was a message that said ... The people who had brought in the cats said that if the owner of them did not come to the SPCA to get them then they would want to adopt them. So that meant we could not get them. We were really sad. So then we went back to searching for two cats.

Then one day when we were watching tv we saw an ad that said the Meow Foundation. So we got the phone number and phoned you. When my mom called, she was told that there was two black kittens who needed a good home. So we asked you guys if we could go and look at the kittens. When the night came for us to look at the kittens we were all very excited! When we got to the home the people that lived there were very, very nice to us. As soon as I saw the two kittens I knew that they were made for us. After we were there for about a half an hour we decided to adopt them. The people told us that the girl's name was Bandit and the boy's name was Spot. We decided to keep the name Spot but we changed Bandit's name to Sienna. My family and I were very pleased with the operation you guys used to get the kittens to our home! If we ever know anybody who is looking for a cat to adopt we will for sure tell them about the Meow Foundation.

Sincerely, Brooke

Photo of Tiger and Veejay.March 26, 2002

Hi there fellow cat lovers!

I would like to say a few things about my beautiful boys, Tiger and Vijay. When I met these two at their foster home, they were so shy. I barely saw them as they were too scared to meet strangers. After an hour they started to come out and play but would run and hide as soon as someone moved. I was hopeful though and decided to take them on anyway.

For the first week it didn't even seem like I had cats as they refused to come out during the day and barely ate anything. However, I was determined and played with them all the time regardless of whether they wanted to or not. After two weeks they really started to come around and were exploring the whole house. And after a month I couldn't even remember them being shy.

Now, I have the two most loving cats I have ever had the pleasure of living with. They play together all the time and fight for the lap of anyone who will sit still. So I guess my message for future parents is that shy cats will be wonderful if you give them time to adjust and keep playing with them. Once they trust you, they will love you unconditionally!

Have fun!
Dana

Just a quick note to thank everyone involved for helping our family grow with the adoption of Krista last December. We would have sent a picture earlier but we keep losing her in the carpet (see photo of Krista and her friends). She totally enjoys playing with her friends and will sit for quite some time each day watching the cat t.v. (aquarium).

Dear MEOW Foundation,

From the management and staff at Driver Direct Delivery and Hotshot Ltd. we would like to thank you all for making our adoption of K.C. a happy and successful experience.

Although K.C. was a bit shy at first, he has become a happy, friendly member of our office setting.

K.C. spends his leisure time greeting all visitors who come through the door, and they are quite welcome as long as they will lavish their attention on him. He now has the run of our entire building, and is earning his paycheque by keeping all those pesky mice at bay.

Warmest regards,

Maria and Perry Stickelmier

Dear MEOW,

Thank you for bringing Shannon into my home and life. She was quite shy at first but with each passing day is becoming more at ease. She's a very affectionate, gentle little girl with the energy of a kitten and loves to play!

I have been searching for "the right" painting to put above my fireplace and now I have live art adorning the mantle! Shannon loves to stretch out and observe from a lofty perch. In the left photo, that is her hind leg behind her, not her tail!

Photo of Shannon. She often likes to sit on a kitchen stool and talk to me while I'm making dinner (see right photo). She can be quite the chatterbox.

She does the cutest thing with her treat canned food. When she gets her bowl of "meat chunks with gravy" she licks up the gravy first and then covers her bowl with the same toy every time. As time passes she goes back to the bowl, moves the toy aside, eats a bit of the meat and then puts the toy back on top. This is repeated until the bowl is empty.

Thanks again,
Rhonda

Both Muffin and Matiesse wrote to thank MEOW for help finding a new home. Here are excerpts from their letters.

"I was unsure of my new parents at first and spent most of my time hiding under things and crying for companionship. Then you brought over my new brother Matiesse and I started to feel more at home. He cleans me and keeps me warm at night. ... Muffin"

"... thank you for my little sister Muffin. At first I thought she was a little tag-along but I have gotten used to having her around. I take care of her and make sure she eats before I do so she has enough. My new parents give me treats every morning (I sit by the pantry to remind them) and brush my long fur all the time. I have gotten used to the attention and I am starting to like it. ... Matiesse"

Dear MEOW,

Here is a picture of Ekimus (MEOW name Crookshank), in his usual lazy spot. He's healthy, happy, and always hungry in his new house, always willing to talk and is a great snuggler.

He also gets along well with his new little sister Zophiel, who still doesn't know what to make of a cat more then twice her size.

All is well, and we were glad to give this big suck a second chance.

Photo of Kate in a sunbeam.
Kate loves sleeping in sunbeams.

January 2002

I recently adopted a senior cat from MEOW ... Kate, who's approximately 10 years old. I've been around cats my entire life and always had them their entire lives, from birth to death. Kate is the first cat I've adopted that has already gone through most of her life.

Because I haven't grown up with her, I don't know her as well. But I respect Kate and give her space when she needs it. She thanks me by being the sweet natured cat that most cats are. It's true you can't be as rambunctious with older cats due to their aching bones. But, believe me, Kate still has her daily bursts of energy when she burns around the house, plays with her little mousie toy, and loves her honeysuckle sticks!

She'll come and cuddle when she wants to and I leave it at that. We've settled in with each other nicely. She sleeps the day away in the nice sunny spots until I get home from work. Then we visit and hang out.

Photo of Kate enjoying the view.
Kate enjoys the view.

Adopting a senior cat is one of the best decisions I've made. I live on my own, work all week long, and I wanted a cat who would be comfortable with that arrangement. Kate most certainly is comfortable with it, as you can see from her pictures. And what senior kitty wouldn't love a peaceful and safe home to call their own?

Senior cats are just as loving and wonderful as younger ones. They've just been through a little more in their lives and deserve a little more respect ... just like in the human world.

Photo of Jack.January 2002

Hello,

... Jack was the match made in heaven that our family was looking for. Twingo and Tonchi, our other cats, love the addition. For Tonchi, Jack is a distraction for Twingo so she will stop pestering her and allow her to rest and relax in her old age. For Twingo, Jack is that amazing playmate that she has always wanted. ...

We are so thankful that we have him in our lives, and couldn't imagine things any other way.

Sincerely,
Andy, Jen, Twingo, Tonchi and Jack

P.S. Attached is a recent photo of Jack - he loves the camera - a real poser!

January 2002

Hi, my name is Isis (MEOW name Bouquet), and this is a shot of me being sassy for the camera. I love it at this new house! Being the only pet in the house makes me the most important one (naturally!), and I have lots of toys and comfy places to nap. I even let my mom sit in "my" chair every once in a while. And I know that she loves me, even though she may not be impressed when I wake her up with the (toy) mice that I've caught. Thanks MEOW for finding me such a great house and a great mom!

Dear MEOW,

Here is a picture of Sebastion (formerly Pierre from MEOW) enjoying his new home and his new best friend Simba. They get along just Great, although Simba still seems to think he is the BOSS. He is very quick to put Sebastion in his place.

I wanted to say thanks to all the adoption volunteers who put in so much of their time for the cats and the new owners. I know Sebastion is very thankful.

January 2002

Stuart (MEOW name Reynard) is a sweetheart of a cat! We are really enjoying our new addition to the family as you can see. Stuart likes it here as well. He still howls at the window at night and has started to try and scratch his way through the glass. Come spring I am considering a harness and leash for him to try out. As the kids will be going out in the back yard more often, he might like to get out for some playtime. Thanks again for taking care of him until he found his true home.

Dear MEOW,

It has been just over two months since you dropped Chloe (MEOW name Casper) off at my home. And even though the integration between Chloe and my current cat (Silver) was done by the book, it has still been a difficult 2 months. Not so much for Chloe; for her, only having one cat to live with is heaven. The difficulty has been for Silver. At this point, things are looking positive. Silver no longer leaves the room when Chloe enters, and he will creep on to the couch with Chloe and I - sometimes ...

Chloe has been good for Silver. She demands play time each evening around 6:00 p.m. and if I stop too soon, she lets me know. Her absolute favorite is a laser pointer ... She loves to tear around the apartment after the red dot. And Silver is happy to lie on the floor and watch her exercise.

Tricia, Silver and Chloe
