Dear MEOW... 2007

MEOW cats and their families write in to tell us about their new lives together.

December 30, 2007

Dear MEOW,

The year is coming to an end and I thought of giving you and the MEOW Foundation a short report about our Black devil. Celia (MEOW name Felisha) seems to be fully grown now and has filled in very nicely. Where there was a hole for some time there is now the beginning of a belly. But she is smart enough not to overeat as she did in the beginning. Still when the cats are called into the kitchen for their meals she is the first one there. In front of her bowl is one of the few occasions when she doesn't bolt into a corner or behind furniture. Yes, she is shy, shy, shy. Getting touched is strictly on her terms, but, typically cat, after lights out she comes on the bed and sleeps there all night. When the door bell rings Celia is gone to the basement, even if a door bell rings on the tube. If there is a visitor she is gone until half an hour after the visitor left. When we were away for a week our son looked after the cats he never saw her, even searching the whole house was futile. As to getting along with the other two?

Just fine! She was accepted right away and she accepted them, actually "sucking up" to them. A favourite place for all three is on the coffee table with Celia squeezed right in-between. But try to stroke or grab her. No such luck, or rather seldom so. But we are sure that her behaviour pattern will change, it does very slowly already. BTW Celia has the most remarkable tail we have ever seen on a cat. Almost the length of her body and bushy is not the word for it. In compensation, her legs are short .

So far the Celia report. We hope that you have had a very pleasant Christmas and we wish you an prosperous and very Happy New Year.

All the best from Herman and Gisela

Christmas 2005 -Joey and Sarah and friend

December 11, 2007

Hi, this is Joey (MEOW name Jowly).

Just a quick note to update you all. I was adopted by a special lady, Mom, and her Border Collie Sarah, back in December 2003. Sarah was my "bestest friend" but she passed away in July 2006 due to her diabetes, at the age of 12 years.

Mom was married in July 2007 and we have relocated to Edmonton.  Mom's husband has a wonderful husky called Larry. Larry and I get along really well. Sometimes I trick Larry by making him come off his bed by doing a funny thing in the hall. Of course, when he comes to investigate I then dash past him back to his bed. Once there, I stretch out just to bug him. I take up the whole bed. Larry then whines to Mom!!

Have a Very Meow-rry Christmas, Joey

Delorme

Delorme

December 3, 2007

Dear MEOW,

It's been over a month since Delorme came to live with me. After a brief adjustment period (and by brief I mean 2 hours or so!) he was wandering around exploring my condo, very relaxed asking for pets with a "mmmA?" looking up with big yellow eyes. I learned quickly that Del announces anything he does with a cheerful chortle, whether it be jumping up onto something, walking into a room or having a happy thought about the window! He also loves to "help" with whatever I'm doing ... he isn't usually much help but he's great company anyways!

Since he's arrived his coat has shined up very nicely; he rolls around and licks and paws the air enthusiastically when he's brushed! I've discovered his great love for fur mice and anything that rattles when he bats at it. It took him a couple of weeks to become comfortable jumping on the cat-tree, but now he's leaping and scratching it like nobody's business. He loves to drink out of the bathtub, so now I leave a little pool of water in it for him.

Delorme 2

Delorme

A friend of mine came over a while ago with her boyfriend, who's had almost no experience with cats, and the little bit he's had was negative. When Del jumped into his lap uninvited and purred and wanted petting, we had to explain what the sound was, and that it was a happy sound! After the visit, at dinner with his family, he proceeded to tell them what a lovely cat I had, and that he'd be happy to get a cat if he was like Del.

What a lovely little cat ambassador I now have for a roommate! He's a delight, thanks so much to MEOW and all of the volunteers for taking in and allowing me to meet such a nice boy.

Boots and Indy

Boots and Indy

November 16, 2007

Hi MEOW;

At long last, here are some photos of Indy and Boots (MEOW names Duncan and Moby).

Indy and Boots continue to get along well and Boots is becoming more comfortable and less apprehensive. He now hangs out on the main floor during the day with Indy. They play-fight and sleep together nicely. He is courageous enough to sleep in the open areas of the house as well. He still hides under the bed but only sometimes.

Boots comes for pets to Nichole and myself. He does seem to be more afraid of big men and still tends to go and hide if Paul or Jeff approach him. He is getting better with noises like the vacuum etc and doesn’t run and hide now with that. He seems happy and is eating well. Indy is very happy to have a friend. He has not cried since Boots arrived so that is very nice.

Boots

Boots

Boots continues to get comfortable as his time with us goes by. He is now hanging around with Indy all the time. The two of them play fight and chase each other - it’s really cute. He seems more confident and goes all over the house now investigating all the rooms etc. Boots even sat with Nichole on the couch on the weekend and let her boyfriend Matt pet him a bit. When Boots and Indy sleep together it is hard to tell where one cat starts and the other finishes just like the photo shows. Boots is a sweetie.

Avery

November 16, 2007

Hello Nice Cat-Saving Folks,

i have been meaning to drop you a note for forever - ok - not forever but at least a year ... i adopted a cat named Avery from you in the spring of 2006 ... i went through the process and came to the shelter to check out some of my favorites from the website - none of whom would give me the time of day when i tried to meet them ...

but there was a pretty little thing who kept coming over to see me ... and we seemed to get on pretty well - and her personality seemed to fit the profile for the type of cat i was looking for ... so, we spent a little more time visiting, and i decided that perhaps she would like to come see what it might be like to live with me ...

and so she was delivered, MEOW style ... and spent the first three days hiding under the bed ... and wondering about the dog ... AND then, i guess she figured she'd stay cuz on the fourth day - even though i had been told not to expect this cat to ever be a lap cat (i had just requested that she not attack me - as my barn cat does occasionally for no apparent reason ...)

anyway - this sweet little thing proceeded to crawl up into my lap, sprawl spread eagle on her back - and snooze until my leg fell asleep ... and purred the whole time!!

this little beast - who volunteers assured me would never be a lap cat ... continues to be a really good, natured affectionate little thing - as long as she is the one allowed to approach ...and i really learned what a sweetheart she is when friends with an 18-month came to visit ... the child had grabbed Miss Avery with his little fist - by the face - twice in under 20 minutes!! and she did not retaliate in what everyone agreed would have been an appropriate reaction for a cat ... she patiently waited for the intervention ...

anyway, she is the best napping partner - sleeping on either my chest or back or hip bone and purring ... she is the best mouse catcher ever - earning her the nickname "MouseLips" ... can hold her own with her curious canine housemate - and has trained me to turn on the tap for fresh water.

it took me awhile to figure out why i had begun to call her "the Mitten", but after i thought about it - i realized it was a contraction for "my kitten" ... and she will come when called either Avery or Mitten - or when i shake the bag for turkey treats (but ONLY turkey ... no other flavour seems to interest her!!)

anyway - i sure love this little cat ...she has been an excellent addition to my household!! and she seems to enjoy my company ... SO - THANK - YOU so much for letting me take this little buddy home!!!

Dear MEOW Foundation,

A few months ago we lost our mama cat, Max, after having her for 15 years. 11 months before, we lost Carmen, Max’s daughter, who was 12 years old. My husband had Max as a kitten and Carmen since the moment she was born and I had known them for almost 10 years. As you can imagine, we were devastated! They were a part of our family and we miss their unique and lovable personalities.

Hobbie

Hobie

We talked about getting two more and knew we wanted to adopt older cats and ones that hopefully would become friends but weren’t sure if we were ready. Well, after several hours on the MEOW Foundation website and several conversations with our adoption coordinator, Kathy, we decided it was time to visit the shelter. Although I believe we met every cat there that day, I fell in absolute love with Hobie the second we met! He has such a gentle calm and after the papers were signed and we put the cat carrier in front of him, he walked right in, turned around and sat down. It was like he knew we were meant to be. The first night at home he checked out every nook and cranny and then plopped right down on the master bed, stretched out and fell asleep with us. Now, he loves to spend endless hours in his new cat tree, playing with the feathers, getting his cheeks scratched and eating – and of course chasing Molly around or just sitting and watching her. Oh, and he still manages to hog the bed every night.

Molly

Molly

We adopted Molly (MEOW name Kanake) from foster care a few weeks after Hobie was settled. She was hesitant and afraid at first and didn’t like too much attention but it didn’t take long for her to feel more comfortable. She is changing before our eyes and every day she becomes even more affectionate and outgoing. She is starting to warm up to Hobie and they’ve even touched noses a few times. Oh, and they sleep a few inches away each night as they hog the bed! She sure likes playing with her toy mice, hanging out in her cat home and on our bed, and curling up in our lap the odd time too.

Thank you for taking such great care of the cats and kittens, and for bringing us together! You should all be so proud of the difference you have made in the lives you have touched! And thank you Kathy for your endless patience with all my phone calls! We are 100 per cent sure that Hobie and Molly are happy in their new home and that we have made a great match here!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Hobie, Molly, Elaine and Kevin

Bella

Bella

November 14, 2007

Hello MEOW!

I thought I would update you on Bella (MEOW name Cara) ... She is doing great and is as lovable and happy as ever. She and her older sister, Crema, have created such a wonderful bond and are always together - whether sleeping, eating, or playing one of Bella's favorite games. (She "hides" on the top of the couch and jumps on Crema from above, landing with all four legs straddling Crema! Bella thinks this is the world's best activity; Crema, on the otherhand, just keeps walking, pretending that there is not another cat on top of her ... and then all of a sudden starts to run at full throttle trying to shake Bella off ... Crema then gets away and the two of them tear around the house at full speed ... this goes on for an hour or more sometimes and is highly entertaining!)

Diva is an understatement when it comes to describing Bella!! Bella runs the joint - she has Chris, me and our roommate wrapped around her finger (or paw, I guess!) - always getting pets and having someone to play with. I have never met a more affectionate and loving cat. ... In regards to shyness, it is worth noting that upon first seeing someone new, she is a bit timid, but in about 1 minute of sniffing them she is purring and loving them like an old friend! She has completely come out of her shy-shell. Bella is an amazing little girl that I am so happy to have had the privilege of adopting!

Thanks again for everything, you guys do such a great job!
Lindsay

Oliver and Sebastian

Oliver and Sebastian

October 31, 2007

Dear MEOW,

Hi! It's me, Sebastian! I came to MEOW in March with my brother Oliver. (Our MEOW names were Wixie and Campookie). Oliver and I were lucky enough to be adopted in June when we were old enough to be taken away from our foster mom.

We now live in a great house where we have lots of room to run and play! I enjoy chasing fuzzy mice and Oliver loves to play fetch with a crinkly ball. We both LOVE when our Mom plays with us using the little red light. We never seem to be able to catch it!!

I am still a little shy, especially with the "little people" my Mom calls "kids". I prefer to hide behind the fridge if I'm scared, but Oliver loves attention so he's right in the middle of it! I love to cuddle with Mom on the couch, especially when she's reading a book.

We are very happy in our new home, and we love our new Mom. She says she loves us too ... she's always trying to kiss us!! Sometimes I let her...but only if I want it too!!

Thanks MEOW for giving us a second chance and a new home!!

Love Oliver and Sebastian!
And Mom Kara too!

Dear MEOW

We are adopted parents of Kiri and Artie, two shy cats who became the part of our small family on October 13th. It has been 2 weeks since their arrival and here is the first update.

Both cats are doing great. After a few days of hiding under the bed, in the closets and behind the plants Artie and Kiri slowly started coming out of their shells and are moving around the house. They started eating regularly and both have great appetites. They spend most of their time in the kitchen relaxing on the padded chairs. Our kitchen is very warm and sunny and cats can see the whole main floor from there while feeling safe and secure under the table.

Kiri and Artie

Kiri (l) and Artie with his new toy

Artie is a bit less shy than Kiri and wanders around the house more, but since Kiri is a very curious lady it's only a matter of time before she will join him in running up and down the stairs. Artie enjoys playing with toys and lets us pet him from time to time while Kiri decided today to accept treats right from my hand. She lets me scratch her behind ears and pet her occasionally but prefers to keep her distance observing humans leisurely stretched on her kitchen chair. Both cats love taking naps cuddled together.

We are sending MEOW this link to the website with Kiri and Artie photo album. We will keep uploading pictures there recoding regularly their progress.

Dear MEOW,

It's been almost one year now since Chico (MEOW name Brent) came to us. He's sleek as satin and fat as butter! His much tinier, but older and bossier sister Minnie has finally come to accept his residency, but remains snarkey to him.

He doesn't care ... Chico gets lots of lovin' from the rest of the family, and doesn't take her too seriously. We love our Kitties!

Cheers!

Cami

Cami

October 27, 2007

Dear MEOW;

Cami (MEOW name Muezza), who arrived on April 22, 2007 as a wild and afraid little girl, has become confident and very affectionate. I have allowed her to choose the timing each step of the way which I think has given her a great of amount of trust in her new home. After she decided that she did not have to hide, she started acting like the royal Persian princess that she is - look but don't touch, or invade my space.

On September 13th, we were sitting side by side on the sofa, when she got up, came over, smelled my hand for a long time, then went back and sat down, but kept staring at me. I took the invitation and slowly reached over. Not only did she let me pet her, when I scratched around her head and neck she leaned on my hand so hard I could barely move my fingers. She purred so loud it sounded like the cooing of pigeons, and indicated that she did not want it to quit. In finally being able to touch her, I realized that under her beautiful coat was a lot of matting, which of course led to having to get her into a carrier and to a vet.

Cami 2

Cami

That was an incident all of its own: trying to approach her gently and her dashing off to another part of the room. After 30 minutes of this, she was in a long window that ends over a book case and the TV stand, with her butt sticking out from the end of the vertical blinds. I held the carrier up to her butt, and blocked her way by holding the verticals close to her. She turned around looked in the carrier, looked at me, and walked in! As if to say - well, why didn't you tell me that's what you wanted! The vet visit went well and they managed to demat her under sedation without having to shave her.

Cami and Percy

Cami and Percy

After that she was even more loving, spending long times with me petting, scratching and combing her. Also shortly after that, she decided that it was time to join the family upstairs - family being me and my senior cat, Percy. Percy has slowly decided that this just might be OK, and while they are not cuddly yet, they do interact, touch noses at times, and look for the other one if they have left the room.

Her latest act of trust is welcoming long belly rubs. She lays on her back, tummy open to the wind, and lets me stroke her whole tummy while she lets her paws flop around my hand and purrs her heart out. She is a joy, a mischievious tease, and a great addition to our family. Thank you so much in seeing her potential in the months that you kept her prior to my adopting her.

Thanks for this opportunity to encourage others to risk adopting a shy cat. She really is a joy.

Brenda

Deliah

Delilah on her favorite blanket

October 20, 2007

Dear MEOW,

It has been a year now since we’ve brought Delilah into our home. And, just as we were told, she is as gentle and mild-tempered as her Southern name suggests. Though her stature is small, she brings with her immense enthusiasm, curiosity, and love. Each morning she greets us with her eager "meows", working her magic to rise us from bed. Her tactics range from a gentle touch of the paw to my hand, to racing behind our heads between the pillows and wall. Delilah’s most favorite activity (besides pouncing her catnip pillow) is demonstrating to us her talent in scratching her post. As she scratches, she often turns her head to ensure we are watching. How she loves an audience! Perhaps it is because of the treats we give her as a reward of good behavior? Additionally, Delilah's curiosity knows no bounds. She is most comfortable investigating the nooks and crannies of our condo, and often finds the perfect resting place, usually on Rob's clothes, clean or otherwise.

We are so grateful that we could offer her a place to enjoy life. Rob and I adore her and look forward to having her as part of our lives in the future. Many thanks MEOW for introducing us to Delilah, and many thanks to everyone at MEOW, especially Doug!

Best,
Jayme and Rob

Emma

Emma

October 17, 2007

Hi Everyone;

I can't believe it has been over 8 months since Emma (MEOW name Eureka) came into our home. Just thought I would give you an update on her progress.

If you could see her now, you would never think she was that same cat that sat at the shelter for 2 years. Every day is a new day for her. The past couple of months have been the most progress. In the beginning she was terrified of the dog, loved Molly (our 15 year old cat) and chased poor Misty (our 10 year old cat) all over. At first we thought she was quite aggresive with Misty but as the months passed, we realized this is how she plays. She still LOVES chasing Misty and finally, Misty has figured out how much fun she is. I'm sure Emma spends her time just thinking how she can surprise Misty next. She is always hiding around some corner just waiting to pounce on her. It is so cute to watch her. I swear she's smiling the whole time!!!! Misty is catching on now and they spend every morning and late evening chasing each other. Molly just watches. It's entertainment for her. Sometimes she lays there and swats at Emma as she goes by but that's the extent of her fun. She's getting too old for all this!!!!

She is no longer afraid of the dog. That took awhile as I think just the size of her scared Emma. Now she walks right past her, sits and looks at her and, if she is in a real devilish mood, she jumps over her while she is sleeping. She knows she will startle her when she does this and I really believe she knows exactly what she's doing. She's quite the girl.

She's very routined. Her and Misty play in the morning and then lay in the sun. She sleeps all afternoon and HATES to be disturbed during this period. She gets a bit cranky if you wake her before 4:00 p.m. At night she is waiting for her treats. They all sit in a row and she VERY patiently waits her turn. She's a real lady.

She is still nervous of certain things and of people she doesn't know but that's just who she is. We are working on picking her up now and she is doing pretty good with that. Doesn't LOVE it but doesn't get as freaked out as she did at first. We can now move her from point A to point B and she's okay with it. She's by no means a lap cat (yet) but she loves to be petted. She will sit forever and let you pet her. She is just a sweetheart.

When we adopted Emma, we adopted her because I felt sorry for her, as she had sat at the shelter for 2 years. We had absolutely no expectations for her, just wanted to give her a loving home. She has blossomed into the most beautiful, gentle girl with personality PLUS. She has added so much fun for Misty and so much entertainment for us. She is just one great cat. I know these shy guys aren't for everybody, but with patience, understanding and love, I think they are the best companions you could ever have.

We would like to thank everyone at MEOW for looking after Emma for 2 years and giving her that second chance at life that she never would have had elsewhere. We couldn't love her more!!!!!!!!!!!

Bye for now,
Emma's Forever Home

Bootsy

Bootsy as the Karate Kid

October 16, 2007

Dear MEOW,

Our sweet Bootsy (MEOW name Lovey) has settled comfortably into her new home in the two months since she moved in with us. She is enjoying her new routine, especially chicken dinners, laser playing and cat chases. She is very sweet and active and, of course, sleepy. She has found herself approximately 8 different sleeping locations (including one under our blankets!), which she rotates through daily. She has been a very good girl - no problems with scratching! She loves pets, belly rubs, and sleeping on the window sill. She is our little princess and we are loving having her in the family!

Thanks MEOW for everything. You have made two people and one kitty cat very happy!

Yours truly,
Jackie

October 10, 2007

Dear MEOW;

Hi there, just wanted to send a picture of my little girl Mishka (MEOW name Indra) who I adopted in July. Our adoption coordinator Kathy was so great in helping out with everything I thought I'd send a picture to show how big Mishka is getting.

The first day I got her she would not leave the bedroom; the second day she was playing a little bit; the third day her and Jeffrey, my other cat, could not stay away from each other. A match made in heaven!

She is a wonderful addition to our family and puts a smile on my face everyday. She and Jeffrey run the house and play and sleep together always.  I am so happy that she is with us.

Thanks to everyone at MEOW Foundation for all they DO ...

Ria, Mishka and Jeffrey

Ben and Ally

October 9, 2007

Hi - It's Ben here (MEOW name Tait).

It's been a year since I was adopted so I wanted to send you a note to let you know how I am doing. Lots has changed in the past year. First of all - I got a little sister! At first I wasn't sure what to think of her but she won me over quickly. Now we enjoy playing together and cuddling a lot. I really love having another kitty here to spend time with.

Also, we moved to Saskatchewan. I wasn't a big fan of the car ride here, but once we got here I realized that my new house is even better than my last! I have so much room to run around in and more areas to hide my favorite toy (crinkle balls). I love playing tag. I hop around until someone pretends to chase me and then I run and hide my head under my crinkle pad so no one can see me. I'm quite a little joker when I am trying to get someone's attention to chase me. So, I just wanted to send a note to let you know that all is well here.

Ben

My parents took this picture when they woke up one night to see me staring out the window at a cat that looked exactly like me. At first they thought it was a reflection but then could see that we were staring at each other and trying to talk to one another.

Thank you to the MEOW Foundation for taking such good care of me until my family came to adopt me.

Ben

Dear MEOW;

I thought I would send a couple of pictures to let you know how Quixote is. He seems to be settling in and making himself right at home. I think that Blossom the dog is happy to have somebody else be in charge and Quixote is more than willing to do the job.

Thanks, Wendy

Dear MEOW Foundation,

I've raided the computer now that my new Mummie and Buddy are watching that silly box they a call a t.v. – I’ve tried to tell Mummie that it is much better to hang out with me looking out the window on my perch for hours but she doesn't understand. Silly human.

I had a few rough days here in my new house, hiding, drooling and crying - going from being very scared to very excited … it was all so very stressful! It seems like so long ago now but after a few days it was okay. I've got a nice new Mummie – she knew I missed the MEOW House and brought me up to her room and put me on her pillow and I stay there all night now and I'm not lonely or scared at all. I purr like crazy and Mummie thinks it's nice – I fall asleep and don't bother the humans until they get up because I know they will give me my favorite food then! Mushy wet food that I DON'T have to share!

(see the attached photo – Mummie took it because I don’t know how to use the camera yet … I was nearly asleep)

Please give a warm purr and thank all the MEOW Volunteers that have helped me – they knew I wasn't a bad kitty, just a little over-excited sometimes because I play a little rough and maybe misunderstood me because I am such a black cat!

My Mummie says black cats are the best because she is not allergic to them - she tells me I'm a good boy most of the time but I am still curious and want to find out what everything is … especially the places they don't want me to go … like the kitchen counter. That has to be a good spot because the food comes from there!!

I miss all my feline friends – even the ones that didn't like me much, please tell them Nigel (a.k.a. Bastion) has a new home and I miss them all so much but hope they find forever homes with nice people soon! I like to destroy toys so Mummie makes some homemade ones for me that are harder to tear up – I will give her an extra cuddle and maybe she will make some for you too! These humans are a little weird but once you get them trained they are okay!

Purrs and cuddles
Nigel

Hi everyone at MEOW!

I just want to let you all know that I love my new home. I want to thank all of you and Chris for giving me this chance, because, if it were not for all of you, who knows where I would be now. Here are some of Mom’s pictures to show you my new animal family. She does not have a whole bunch of all of us together but says at Xmas, that she will send one of all of us together.

Maggie May and Samson

Samson and Maggie May

The black and white one is Samson (MEOW name Limerick) and he is my best friend; he also came from MEOW. There's another cat who is just black - Meow, yes, that is her name! - who is a lot older and does not like to play too much. But she likes me and shows me things and helps me clean myself. Now that orange pet that Mom and Dad call Molly Rabbit lives in the cage and I sit on top of her cage all the time. She is older also and I like to chase her and play. Most of the time I am too playful for her at her age so sometimes me and Samson have to play elsewhere, when she is hopping. They say when I settle down a bit that me and Molly can play together.

Well thank you all again and I love my new home and hope all my brothers and sisters are as happy. Oh by the way they call me Maggie May these days but I was called Malika at MEOW.

Bye for now, Maggie May

Tomlin

Tomlin

September 29, 2007

Here is a quick update on Tomlin. Tomlin now lives in BC and loves his new home. Through love, patience and understanding Tomlin overcame his fears and aggression and is now a very playful cat who loves to have his belly rubbed.

Tomlin’s foster parent decided that Tomlin was a keeper and adopted him before moving. Now called "a great cat", Tomlin’s new and improved attitude in life is a testament to what foster parents do for rescued animals.

Thanks for being a great foster parent Derek!

Maia and Tigger

Maia (b/w) and her boy friend Tigger

September 29, 2007

Dear MEOW,

Not too long ago Maia joined our family. We were all exited weeks before she came, but Tigger, her to-be boy friend, had no clue. When Maia finally arrived, we were glad we had the long instruction sheet from the Foundation, because Tigger was not at all pleased with what we thought would make a great new friend. Days of separation and hissing however were followed by cautious nose contact. It did not take much longer until they started playing together, and now they are best friends. Maia is a fantastic little explorer and a dare devil. She thinks everything is fun and makes us laugh with her tricks.

Thanks Kathy and Carolyn for all your support and ideas.

Lizzie Lisbon

Lizzie Lisbon

September 25, 2007

Dear MEOW,

It’s been two months since Lizzie Lisbon (MEOW name Lisbon) joined our family. We had decided it was time to get our sedate 7 year old Maine Coone his very own cat and a playmate for our 5 year old son since Bear was not too interested in the noise that goes along with little boys. We went to the shelter a few times with the help of our exuberant coordinator Kathy who showed us so much patience; we wanted to take all the lovely cats home and had a difficult time narrowing it down. In the end, Lisbon chose us and we couldn’t be happier. There has been some hissing, minor swats and dirty looks between the two cats; but they have sorted out their differences (mostly) and enjoy sharing a sunbeam together quite often.

The biggest difference has been to our little boy; Lizzie Lisbon enjoys cuddling with him, playing cars with him and chasing a flashlight beam all over; I have never heard him laugh so long or so loud. Lisbon and he are meant for each other.

I cannot say enough about how helpful the volunteers were in helping us find our new furry family member; she will bring much joy and laughter into our lives. I know all the wonderful cats that go through the shelter will be treated with much respect and love until they too can find their own forever-family.

Dear MEOW,

My two little girls and I are so thrilled with the two kittens we adopted from you this past May. Jules (MEOW name - Buzzer) and Azura (same) are now 6 1/2 months old and have been a source of constant joy, amusement, and occasionally, exasperation! They have settled in so well with us and we cannot imagine life without them. Initially very shy, it wasn't long before they became cozy sleeping-in-the-bed kittens! Our resident cat, Newman, has been very reluctant to accept them but I am happy to report that after almost 4 1/2 months, he is slowly coming around! Thanks again!

Sincerely,
Tanja

Dear MEOW,

Copernicus Oscar Freybe-MacIntyre (MEOW name Freybe) and I are doing very well. He is so sweet and adorable, our personalities are perfectly suited to each other, I already can’t imagine my life with out him. I have taken probably 70-90 pictures of him; he seems enjoy modelling. He has already received many presents from friends, family and co-workers, but his favourite thing to play with is some paper I had some flowers wrapped in that I brought home. I set it up like a little tee pee and he races in and out and either hides under the paper or decides to wildly attack it. We haven’t decided if he would like a friend to live with us or if he would prefer to remain the king and sole beneficiary of my love and attention. I will keep you posted on our decision. Thanks again for all the work you did to bring us together, I couldn’t be happier or have found a better life mate.

Take care and I hope all is well,

Ainslie

Dear MEOW;

It's been along while since we have checked in with you all. This is just to let you know we are all doing fine! The baby, Nic (MEOW name Nicklebee) is already two years old. He was a shy kitten, but now does love his family very much. He will still run away if strangers come though. Benson (MEOW name Kit) is already four, he's a big softie. He will roll over on his back for anyone to give him a good belly rub! Karma (MEOW name Karma) is five. He is friendly and a typical cat at the same time. If he wants to be held, he will let you, if he doesn't, he won't. Tori (MEOW name Victoria) the only girl here, she is also five. She is our feral cat, she is still very shy and will only occasionally let me pet her. It doesn't last long though. But she will not run away and hide like she used to; she will sit a few feet away and observe the goings on. The oldest cat is Jet, he is twelve and was adopted through Street Cats. He is super friendly. We all get along really well!

Here we all are, at breakfast time, when we share a can of moist food.

Tamu and Dini

Tamu and Dini

September 10, 2007

Dear MEOW;

Well, it has been about 9 months now since we have adopted Tamu (MEOW name Effy) and Dini (MEOW name Clothilde), and I would like to let you know what a wonderful experience it has been so far.

In August 2006, my parents adopted two wonderful kittens from MEOW, Larik (Durango) and Uma (Magnolia), and their happy story is already posted on this website. It was around the same time that I moved out of my parents’ house into a first house of my own. Needless to say, I knew that my new house will not be a "home" without cats in it. Shortly after settling in, my boyfriend Chris (who then was a dog-only person) and I started visiting MEOW website almost daily.

After several months of searching and preparation, on December 16, 2006, we welcomed 6-month-old Tamu and 3-month-old Dini into our house.

Tamu came from a family of four "shy" kittens, and she stole our hearts the moment we looked into her eyes. She looked very scared, but she was gentle, and she had the softest grey fur we have ever touched! Dini was the opposite and we thought we were in trouble when she first appeared in the house. She was the most rambunctious and unpredictable kitten! While Tamu was hiding in the closet and getting used to the new place, Dini was racing around the rooms, destroying her toys and occasionally knocking down a knick-knack or two! She was almost immediately nicknamed Crazy Eye, as her left eye would slightly twitch when she was too excited or about to high-tail across the house!

Tamu

Dini

Tamu Dini

In the beginning, the two kittens did not really get along, as Dini was too noisy and dominating for quiet and cautious Tamu, who gradually came out of her shell and became a little gentle princess. Tamu soon started to sleep by my side at night, and she also discovered that being petted was fun! Surprisingly, she did not grow much larger in size, so she still looks almost the same as she did the day we adopted her. Over time, Dini, who is now much larger than Tamu, joined her in sleeping next to me, or should I say, on me, as she usually picks my back, chest, or shoulder to sleep on. She is still very particular about being petted, and she only allows us to do so when she pleases, but when she does, she is a two-in-one cuddle bug and purr-machine who jumps on you lap whether you want it or not!

Dini and Tamu

Dini and Tamu

Now our cats get along great and they have also joined forces when it comes to troublemaking. While Dini is still the more active one, Tamu is now joining the fun by instigating Dini and showing her where in the house all the good places to get in trouble are.

My now-fiancé Chris (who is now also a self-proclaimed cat lover) and I would like to thank MEOW and our coordinator, Brenda, for giving us an opportunity to care for our wonderful girls and for making our lives that much more exciting and a little crazy. We would also like to thank Dini and Tamu for being in our lives and teaching us that patience and fun are not mutually exclusive.

Sincerely,
Irina and Chris

Tikki

Tikki

September 9, 2007

Dear MEOW;

Today is Tikki's (MEOW name Minerva) 1st year anniversary with us. It's hard to believe its been a whole year already.

Tikki is doing marvellous. She weighs about 12 lbs now and rules the house like the princess she is. She is the most personable cat I have ever owned. She loves to be with people and greets us at the door when we arrive home from work. She loves to play with Scooter (cat) and Reggie (dog) and her tonnes of toys. She follows us around the house like a little puppy and, of course, when it is bedtime you will find Tikki sleeping comfortably between my husband and I.

Since the nice weather came in June, Tikki really wanted to venture outside so we bought her a harness and lease and a metal support stake so that she can sit outside with us on nice days. Of course now when she wants to go outside she meows and chases me around the house until I get her leash and go outside with her.

I just want to thank you for your assistance in helping us to adopt Tikki. She is so special and we love her so much.

Janice

Hi everyone at the MEOW Foundation.

I just wanted to express my gratitude for the wonderful companion that we have received through the foundation. Stewart (MEOW name Hula) is very precious to us. He has fit in like a glove in the apartment and with our older Siamese cat Stoley. It is a great joy to see them sleeping together and enjoying each other’s company. He loves to play and when we play with him ... no claws!! He is so adorable and so loving.

Thank you MEOW for doing such wonderful things for cats and kittens. If it wasn’t for you we would not know the wonderful addition to our little family.

Oh yeah, Stoley says thanks for his new little brother!!

Brooke

Brooke

August 24, 2007

Dear MEOW,

Brooke (MEOW name Brooklyn) has settled into our home quite nicely and into everyone's hearts. She did end up making friends with our beloved dog, Ocea. Ocea has passed away now. She was 12 plus years old and had gone totally blind and deaf rather quickly and was having to hard a time dealing with it. Our vet said it was best to let her go. We miss her dearly as we do Sabastian, our cat of 20 years.

But back to Brooke. She is quite a character, she prefers to drink out of a glass, no matter if it's yours or hers. She has lots of toys but likes marbles best. Brooke has her outside time every day on a harness and leash, which she loves. She actually sits while the harness is put on her. All she has to hear is the bell which is attached to it and she comes running. Everyone just loves her.

We have decided that she needs a friend to keep her company while we are all at work and Noe has sparked our interest.

Truly, Janice

Dear MEOW,

Just thought you might enjoy this photo of Waylon with his (not-so-little anymore) buddy Jax (MEOW name Togo).

They are amazing together and both have such sweet personalities. Waylon's health is doing well and continues to improve. Jax is a real cuddly boy and uses Waylon a lot for a pillow as you can see in the photo. They also spend time wrestling together.

Take care and best wishes to you all,

Zeus 1

Zeus is all ready to watch football and drink some brewskies.

July 31, 2007

Dear MEOW,

When my very first cat, my beloved Sammy, died suddenly of kidney failure at only 5 years old just before Christmas 2006, I wasn’t sure how long I’d wait to adopt a new kitty. My other cat, Tigger, missed her friend terribly and I decided, even though it was just 7 weeks or so after Sam’s death, to apply to MEOW. We first brought home a loving and spunky cat named Charity, but Tigger couldn’t accept her. I was very upset and disheartened to have to return Charity to the shelter (but luckily she was adopted into a forever home a couple weeks later!)

Zeus 2

Zeus wonders, "What do you do in there?"

I thought maybe a male kitten would work better, but seeing as kitten season was over, I was prepared for a long wait. I thought maybe Tigger and I were not quite ready to replace Sam yet anyhow. Brenda suggested we check out a couple of older feral kittens at the shelter just "to see." Not expecting much, Jesse and I went to the shelter to meet a couple of shy guys, and one, Zeus, was playful and followed us from room to room. I thought this was a sign, and we decided to give him a try.

The first 2 weeks were very rough. He was terrified in his new room, hissed at us constantly, and Tigger wanted nothing to do with him. I was so frustrated and upset that I didn’t know what to do. Knowing he was upset because he was lonely, and knowing he wouldn’t get the attention he wanted from Tigger just yet, Jesse and I forced him out of his comfort zone and started touching him as much as possible. He continued to hiss and run away, but never struck out, even when we cornered him and forced him to interact. Apparently all he needed was a push, because he came around quite quickly after that.

Zeus 4

Tigger and Zeus during one of their (rare) quiet moments.

He has blossomed into a beautiful, loving boy, still a kitten at heart and therefore at times tries the patience, but I know he’ll settle down once he's fully grown. He loves to cuddle, loves to eat – although has yet to like any treat I’ve tried to give him, and loves to look out the window and sniff the air through the screen door.

Tigger has grudgingly accepted him; they chase each other around and sit together at the window in the morning. She still doesn’t like to cuddle with him too much, though I have caught her giving him the odd kiss! He is a little energetic for her right now, and would love to wrestle with her, but she lets him know when enough is enough – just like a big sister.

Zeus 3

Once Zeus is sleepy and calm, Jesse can sneak in a quick hug.

I am so glad I tried out a feral guy, he’s bonded with me much more than I expected, and although Sammy can never be replaced, Zeus has become my new special little guy and Tigger’s buddy. He’s still scared of loud noises and movements, and a little wary around men, although as you can see in the picture, Jesse can scoop him up when he’s feeling sleepy.

Thank you so much to MEOW, and Brenda, for helping us through this hard time and being patient enough with us to find the perfect little guy for our family. We love him so much and are so honoured that he trusts and loves us too.

Sincerely,
Amanda, Jesse, Tigger and Zeus

Harry

Harry

July 29, 2007

Dear MEOW,

Harry (the MEOW feline formerly known as Gandhi) here, checking in with my old friends at MEOW. Mary sends her regards, but is too busy basking to write.

When we first came to our new home we were very scared. I was a lot better than Mary - ask anyone! She had never lived with a man in the house before, so she was extra scared. I was shy for a few hours, but then I couldn’t take not getting petted. Imagine having two human servants, and neither of them devoted to my beautiful grey suit - unthinkable!!

Mary

Mary

Even though I was friendly and fitting in well, I was a rare case and was sick for the first few weeks. Mary is shy with people but I’ve lived with her most of my life, and I can’t imagine spending a day where she isn’t licking the spot between my ears. We spent some time at the MEOW shelter with lots of other cats. Unfortunately, I was that guy with a big “L” on his forehead, and everyone picked on me. What can I say? I’m a lover, not a fighter. We were relieved to be sent to a house with only one other cat, but I was still a nervous wreck. My mom could tell you stories about the cat puke on her carpet. In the end she was grateful - she needed a nudge from someone to convince her to do hardwood. See how helpful I am? My mom would tell you that the MEOW folks were wonderful during my issues. They provided a ton of support, and Brenda, my adoption coordinator, was always available. They arranged for me to see Dr Qi at their expense, and he ran a whole bunch of tests to make sure I was healthy. In the end, a diet change and some quiet time was all I needed.

Once I was feeling better, we were introduced to Carmen, the resident cat. We have quite a little triangle going on. Carmen is a pretty little brown tabby, and she was very interested in me. (Wouldn’t you be? I’m gorgeous!) However, I’m a one-woman man and I had to repel her advances with hissing and posturing. Mary wanted to run up and mother Carmen. Carmen, being old and cranky and infatuated with yours truly, wanted nothing of it. So Mary got the cold shoulder in the form of a good swat. Several weeks later, Carmen and I have agreed to just be friends, and Carmen and Mary have learned to coexist. I’m almost eight years old, but I’m afraid I’ll never understand female cats.

Mary, as I mentioned before, was a shy cat, compounded by our experiences leading up to the MEOW shelter. It took some time, and some bribery with Temptations, but she’s learning that being feral really doesn’t compare to being a spoiled little princess. She’s learning to appreciate a good pet and a thorough brushing, and has been known to purr like a small lawnmower if she forgets to be afraid. She’s even warming up to our new dad - on the weekend they both cratered from the heat, and were observed side by side, fast asleep in front of the fan.

We can’t thank MEOW enough, for supporting our new people after they brought us home and keeping them sane as we settled in. My mom checks the website frequently and keeps us updated on the progress of our roommates; I only hope they all wind up with as sweet a gig as we did.

Regards,
Harry

Avi and Kino
Kino and Avi

July 12, 2007

Dear MEOW,

Last August I had my heart set on adopting a mother cat and one of her kittens from the MEOW Foundation. I was soooo lucky to meet a foster mom at a MEOW event who told me of her cat family she was fostering. Of course the kittens were cute and playful and definitely would be adopted, however the gentle little mother may be overlooked ... so I had to meet her. Of course, I could not resist.

Avi (MEOW name Lindy) is still so small from having her kittens when she was young. She is timid but tolerant. She will knead and nuzzle your chest in the quiet times and then she will go crazy with the cat nip. Kino (MEOW name Tikki) turned one in May, but still has his little 'mew'. He is very playful and loves his mice. Kino is my lap cat and he can't get enough crunchies!!!

Avi and Kino
Avi and Kino

Avi and Kino still sleep together (sometimes squished in one MEOW bed). They lick each other, play together, and are great friends! I am so happy to have kept this pair together. I highly recommend adopting a mother/kitten combo! Thank you MEOW Foundation for helping me find my new 'special little friends'. Thank you also to Lindy's foster family for taking such good care of her and her kittens!!!!

Charlie Chaplin

June 28, 2007

Dear MEOW,

Well it has been just over 7 months now and I have to thank you for bringing this little guy into my life. When I moved out on my own, it soon became apparent that my 8 yr old Kahlua was not happy being alone. So when I adopted Outback Mac I knew it was as perfect fit. It did take awhile for Kahlua to get used to him but now they share my apartment and my love.

Outback Mac now goes by Charlie Chaplin (Charlie or Mr. Magoo for short) thanks to his tuxedo appearance. And to be honest he is such a little troublemaker but it keeps me on my toes. The first 2 weeks that I had him, he fell in the toilet 3 times, got locked in multiple cupboards, and got stuck behind the fridge.

Kahlua and Charlie Chaplin

Kahlua and Charlie Chaplin

He gets into everything! I had to extremely kitten-proof my house. Now he is almost 8 months old and although he now knows that the toilet isn't the best place to jump to, he still keeps me and Kahlua on our toes. He loves to pounce on Kahlua's tail when she isn't looking!

But the best part of my day is when I crawl into bed. Kahlua takes her position under my arm and Charlie climbs onto my pillow and sleeps sprawled over my head. He purrs so loud and seems so content for you just to be near him.

Charlie Chaplin

Charlie Chaplin

Charlie is so easy going and cuddly that everyone who meets him falls in love. My mom spoiled both cats this Christmas and now there are so many toys lying around my house I am constantly stepping on them.

So thank you so much for giving me the new addition to my little family.

Stewie

June 18, 2007

Dear MEOW,

We adopted Stewie as a small, fluffy kitten in September 2006. It was nice to have a kitten in the house; except our other cat, Jazz, wasn't so keen on him at first. But she eventually warmed up to the little bundle. It's been almost a year now; Oh, how time flies! And how big he's grown as well! He went from a small, fuzzy kitten, to a large, cuddly teddy bear! Even if he's huge, he's still a kitten at heart!

Stewie and Jazz

Stewie snuggling with little Jazzy, whose 2 years his elder

Stewie loves playing with catnip, eating Fancy Feast, purring louder than a motor, pouncing on Jazz when she least expects it, and yowling near the door till he finally gets to go outside (under a watchful eye, of course). Oh, how he loves going outside and jumping on bugs. He's amazed by the simplest things; snow was especially exciting. Despite being so carefree, Stewie's been really good with all the moving. He also never fails to amuse when he gets so excited his tail vibrates and flutters with happiness.

After the loss of our beloved cat and Jazz's best friend, Boots, Stewie helped mend our hearts. He's our little sunshine on a bad day! Thank you so much, MEOW!

Cami

MEOW name Muezza)

June 12, 2007

Dear MEOW;

I arrived in my new home so terrified that I hid under the sofa and would not come out. But gradually I have learned that my new mom only talks softly to me, and will not force me to do anything that makes me uncomfortable or afraid. She has given me a big room with large windows to live in, and several soft places to relax and sleep. I am slowly learning to trust her, and have even begun playing with the laser pointer and mouse and feathered toys that she has bought me. And when she noticed that the first scratching post was not sturdy enough for me she even bought me a new one that I love.

Sometimes when she feeds me treats, she holds them close to my face but won't drop them on the floor so I pat her fingers with my paw and then the treats drop for me. She seems to like it when I touch her. The cat that already lived in the house when I came doesn't seem to like my being here, but mom assures me that it is because she is old and that change is hard for her but that she will get used to me. I think she assures her too because I hear her talking to her outside my room.

I always have lots of food and fresh water so life is good here. I know that eventually I will be able to get over my inhibitions and enjoy human contact, and mom says that I can have all of the time I need to do that. I will write again later to let you know of my progress. Mom says not to forget to say thank you to all of you at the MEOW Foundation for rescuing me and being patient with my shyness and working with me. She is so thankful that I have become part of her family.

Love, Cami (which is short for Cameo, formerly Muezza)

Dear MEOW,

Just a quick note to let you know how Hank (MEOW name: Java Bean) is making out in our home. Although it took Hank and Joey a few days to get along, they are now inseparable. What Joey does, Hank tries to do. (perhaps with a little less grace!)

Hank and Joey

Hank and Joey

We were very worried about getting a good match with Joey’s personality and were so grateful for the time and effort you put into ensuring Hank was the right fit for our family. Thankfully, Hank likes to wrestle as much as Joey does and it has helped to calm them both down!!

Hank is growing up quickly- a typical teenager eating us out of house and home, lazing around in the sunshine, stalking the birds from the patio doors, and taking up all the room on our bed!

Thanks again for helping us find Hank, and giving such great tips in transitioning him into our home.

Dear MEOW,

I just wanted to say thank you for all of your help with the new man in my life. Oswald (MEOW name Verdi) was quick to make my house his home. His favorite past times, besides sleeping in his MEOW bed, are chasing peacock feathers, watching the squirrels in my backyard, and attacking my alarm clock. I guess he just likes to sleep in late in the mornings. I can't imagine what I did without him.

Kenya

May 10, 2007

Hi MEOW,

It's me Kenya! (MEOW Foundation name: Cambria)

Just thought I'd write and let you know that my new mom really never needed a whole month to think about keeping me. She loved me from the start, and so did my new and bestest friend in the world, Basil. He's a handsome gent, and we've grown to be quite good friends. He seemed really standoffish with me at first, and I could tell he was still very sad about losing his brother a few months ago. But my charm warmed him over in no time. Now we hang out all day together, and I "think" he loves me as much as I love him. I was meant to be with this family, I really was!!

My new digs are great. I still have my own "safe" room to run to if someone comes to the door, but it seems I'm spending less and less time there. My new mom is pretty quiet and nice. Basil, her and I watch TV most nights, and then she usually plays with us with those funny feather teasers after.

I gets lots of nap time in the sunny areas during the day, am eating really good, and oh yeah, I get treats too! I'm also having fun teaching Basil my nocturnal abilities! We roam around and knock things over quietly during the night - it's lots of fun! I really have to say I can call this place my own kingdom now. (OK ... well, technically its Basil's kingdom, but he doesn't mind sharing! hehe!!)

I really want to thank all my friends at the MEOW Foundation for doing such a phenomenal job working with me and allowing me to trust humans again. I never could've done it without their patience, kindness, and understanding. And please tell all my buddies at the MEOW house, that I will miss them alot, but that I hit the jackpot, and that I only hope and wish for them to find permanent homes and be as happy as me someday as well!! My new mom wants everyone who is thinking of adopting, to think about adopting a feral like me. We ferals have lots of love to give to the right family!!

Attached are some photos of Basil and me. Hope you enjoy!!

Regards,
Kenya

L to r: Keon, Lexus, Rockie

May 10, 2007

It's hard to believe that these two precious little boys have been with me now only 5 weeks! They stole my heart on first sight! Rockie took a little longer though - Keon and Lexus followed him all around the house for a week before he decided to admit there were other cats in the house now!

I rescued Rockie right off the streets of Grande Prairie two years ago and he has struggled with kidney problems for the past year. As he started getting stronger he also got more demanding for love and playtime so I decided to find him a friend. Only instead of one, I brought home two brothers and now they are inseparable!!

The days when I can work from home are always the best! It's a constant parade of shenanigans and cuddles!!! Then, if it's too quiet and I go looking for them, they're not too hard to find! They're usually passed out on the daybed together in the sunshine!!!

Thank you MEOW, especially Brenda and Jorinda for helping these little boys get settled!!

Dear Brenda and MEOW,

My name is Mia (MEOW name Shivers) and I want to tell you how happy I am in my new home with my brothers Mylo and Marcus (MEOW names Roland and Marcus). When I first arrived I was really shy and a bit scared too, so I hid under the bed in my room. Mom and Dad were very patient with me and waited until I decided to come out on my own. When I let them scratch my ears they were gentle and so I decided they could keep doing that. I stayed in my room for a week before I met my brothers and that was good because then I wasn’t as scared. When I finally met them we were all a little nervous at first but they turned out to be really nice. They shared their food with me and their MEOW beds and their toys. Boy do they have a lot of toys!

Mia, Marcus and Mylo

Mia, Marcus and Mylo

Now it’s like I have always been here. We play together and cuddle too! My big brothers really take care of me. Mylo is the quiet one but he’s super smart. He has shown me how to jump on the counters and play with the plants. Mom and Dad don’t seem to like that so we have to be really sneaky. Marcus is kind of goofy. He has shown me how to wake Mom and Dad up in the morning by walking on them and sniffing their faces. And I’m teaching my brothers some good stuff to. I like to go to the basement and find things that Mom and Dad have hidden away and then bring them upstairs for show and tell. Sometimes I have to open up the packaging first so we can see what is inside. Mom and Dad sure seem impressed by what I can find!

Dad and I are trying to convince Mom to bring another brother or sister home so I will keep you posted on how that turns out. Thanks for finding me such a great family!

Hi MEOW,

I had my camera handy last night, so took a few photos of Kenya settling in to her new lifestyle. I loved the name "Kenya" from your website, so have renamed her (MEOW name Cambria) to that - it seems to suit her quite well.

Another enormous breakthrough this morning ... when I awoke this morning, not only was my guy, Basil curled up around my shoulder, but Kenya was also asleep nudged up against me and intertwined into Basil's stomach. I couldn't move for a 1/2 hour as I didn't want to disrupt the contentment that was going on, and how sweet they both looked. When I did move, there was only a little shuffling that took place and she just came up closer to me and nudged her way in between us. Basil didn't even mind, he just let her do it and then gave her a little lick on the nose. Well then Kenya's motor really got going.

It was just so sweet ... it didn't last much longer than a few minutes after the shuffling, but it was very sweet. I think they were both pretty tuckered from the exploring they seemed to have done all night (which woke me up several times - ha ha).

She really is such a sweetheart, and it is a major kudo to the people that have worked with her to bring her this far along.

Kenya

Kenya and Basil

In the photo of her on my book shelf ... she actually leapt up there which is a little higher than a countertop. I think Basil was a little surprised when she did that how high she could jump. Mind you maybe she was just doing that to impress him! LOL!

Cheers,
Sue

Note from MEOW: Wow, this was one shy cat at the shelter and she was there a long time. This is wonderful.

Tucker

Tucker - King of the Castle

May 5, 2007

This is me, Tucker (MEOW name Alessandro). When I was adopted in May 2006, I became fast friends with my new roommate Harley. I just walked in like I owned the joint and he seemed OK with it. He lets me clean him but he's not very good at returning the favour. We like to chase each other, wrestle and hide in the tub from each other. (I'm pretty sure he doesn't know where I am.)

Tucker's toys

I only put a few toys under the stove.

My favourite toy is a pipe cleaner (even though I have a basket of very good proper toys ...) My favourite game is to push the pipe cleaners under the stove and then sit in front of it and cry 'til my my mom gets the toy out. I do it for her benefit as I'm pretty sure she likes to take the stove apart to get them out - she always says she likes to be busy.

Thank you MEOW Foundation for finding me such a good home and a best friend I can spend my days with. Oh, my mom's OK too.

Nusa and Dua

Nusa and Dua

May 4, 2007

Hello everyone at the MEOW Foundation,

We adopted Nusa and Dua (MEOW names Bubba and Skylark) back in 2001 and would like to give you an update ...

When we adopted them we had only been married a year and had just moved into our new house. We have since moved to a bigger house, had twin girls in 2003 (which love the cats now) and then got relocated to Australia with my husband's work.

Because we truly believe that the cats are part of our family they of course came with us. It was a lengthy process that included 30 days quarantine in Sydney, Australia. By the time they reached us in Brisbane they were very very happy to see us.

And considering they are indoor cats who love to look out the windows, they have a LOT to see.

  1. Cockatoos that are as big as they are.
  2. Water Dragon Lizards that come right up to the window to check them out (about 18 inches long).
  3. And every cat around (they do not have a law to keep cats indoors here).

But they have helped keep all the unwanted things out of the house as well (they have spiders over here as big as your hand!).

Nusa and Dua

Nusa and Dua

Here is a picture of their favorite place to sleep (mostly because it is out of reach of the kids). We will be back in Calgary again by August 2009, and I’m sure the cats will not look forward to their first winter again.

Take care MEOW Foundation and keep up the great work you do.

April 29, 2007

Hi y'all. Jenny (MEOW name Teko) here. I just wanted to let you know that this new vacation spa you booked me into is fabulous! It's only been a few weeks and already I've lost some of my extra pudge. The daily workouts include chasing laser lights, jumping after feathers and running up and down stairs with a scruffy, but lovable, guy I've met named Oliver (MEOW name Mestoffeles).

Oliver and Jenny

Oliver and Jenny

I've been teaching him how to play hide and seek. He's not quite getting the hang of it yet, so I scamper out from my hiding spot, rub my cheek against his, and scamper off again. He's starting to get the idea.

The people who own the spa are so impressed with my game abilities that they offered me a permanent job. I've accepted because the benefits are top notch: comfy cat beds in every room, big windows with amazing views of the river valley, catnip, gourmet organic food and so on.

Oliver

Oliver

Another reason I accepted the job is because I found out that Oliver is the office assistant here. Now we both curl up in our MEOW beds in the lady's home office and purr to help her stay calm and stress-free while she's working. I'm sending along some photos and, of course, profuse thanks from the people here who say they don't know how they managed without my combination of spunky attitude and polite manners.

Cosmo

Cosmo

April 27, 2007

Dear MEOW Foundation,

It only took Cosmo (MEOW Foundation name Gianni) a couple of days to go from hiding under the bed in the basement to curling up beside me on the sofa! The integration with Dharma, my 1-year-old Shih Tzu went even better than I expected. Not even a hiss, although there was and is lots of barking!! Dharma is very happy to have a new playmate and Cosmo is the perfect foil for Dharma the Diva!

It’s only been two weeks and they both share my bed with me; some nights it takes a little while for them to settle in after play time. They take turns chasing each other around the house. Dharma will chase Cosmo down the hall where he’ll find a prime spot to hide and wait to stalk Dharma when she comes looking for him – then the game is on again!

Cosmo and Dharma

Dharma thinks Cosmo has
vanished into thin air
!

Cosmo is a very chatty fellow when he greets me at the kitchen door or when he wants attention, or treats, he LOVES his treats!! I’m afraid I’m spoiling him already. His favorite spots are basking in the sun on his window perch or taunting Dharma from his tower. Dharma couldn’t find him the first time he went inside the cubby; it was like he vanished into thin air!!

A big Thank-You goes to Brenda for her guidance through the adoption process. I am amazed at how well you know each cat, which made it so easy to choose the right kitty for us. Dharma and I look forward to a long and happy relationship with Cosmo.

Thanks again,
Ann & Dharma

Hello to Everyone at MEOW!

Greetings from Maryann! I remember the day the nice lady human came to MEOW and saw me first and petted and talked nice to me. Then she moved on and visited with other the other cats. I thought I was being overlooked again because I am so much older than the other guys. Then she came back and they put me in a carrier. I was scared! She took me home and tried to make me feel better by putting me in a room by myself, but I cried and cried. Then she let me out and I met my brother Bailey. We hissed and growled and avoided each other. Next she asked if we were hungry and I discovered the wonderful treat called Fancy Feast. It only took one day to make friends with my new brother and now we have lots of fun! I now have my human trained to feed and love me. It’s wonderful to have a home and a routine I can count on! My new mom wants to add a comment.

Maryann and Bailey

Maryann and Bailey

From Mom: When I lost my beloved 17-year-old Max, I was devastated! After I got over the worst of the grieving I realized someone else was grieving also, my 10-year-old Persian, Bailey. Everyday when I came home from work he was waiting for me to bring Max home. Bringing home Maryann who is the same age has brought him back to his old self and Maryann is so very happy. It would have been so unfair to Bailey to bring home a young kitten. Maryann is secure and very happy and she brings me great joy when she and Bailey hear my key in the door and both come running to greet me.

Thanks MEOW for all the wonderful work you do!

Hi All,

Just thought we wold send you some photos of Monty (MEOW name Lochinvar), not easy to get him to pose!. We took him for a professional groom (not at a vet); he was very well behaved, had his nails clipped a little and he feels a lot happier.

He has his own spot on the sofa, to which he is very good at pushing us off when he wants to sit there. He is very well behaved, meows his head off at us when he wants us to sit next to him and is very much loved by us all, especially Charlotte!

Best Wishes

Dear MEOW,

Hi there, just thought I would update you on Emma's (MEOW name Eureka) progress.

I can't believe it has only been just over 2 months now that Emma has come to be with us. Her progress this past month has been amazing.

Her first month she spent basically in "her room", venturing out a bit but usually got spooked and would run back into her room for security. At night we would close her door (which she could still see out of) and she would be quite content with that. Not any more!!! One night she decided she no longer wanted to be in her room at night and cried the most mournful cry you could imagine. So that was it. Her door was no longer closed at all.

Emma and Molly
Emma and Molly

She now has free run of the whole house and just loves it. We still keep the dog cage in front of her room so she can jump in to eat and use her litter. The dog cage keeps the dog out of her room. She loves Molly (our older, dominate cat) and follows her everywhere. Molly is good to her. She has stopped chasing Misty around but now Misty does nothing but hiss at her because I think she thinks she is still going to chase her. Emma just stares at her now. In the morning she loves to lay in the sun with Molly right beside her of course. She rolls and stretches out just like Molly. It's so cute to watch. She waits in the hall for me in the morning and I have to keep petting her until she lets me know she has had enough and if I quit petting her too soon she will follow me around. She is one cute little girl.

Adjusting to the dog has been more of a challenge. Our dog likes cats but if they run from her those herding instincts take over and she will follow her. Emma is getting better at not running from her but is still a bit nervous around her. We think she has now found the perfect spot to sleep so the dog doesn't bug her. We put one of her MEOW beds on the dining room chair and she just loves it. She can see around the whole room and into the kitchen from that spot. If the dog pokes her nose in at her she smacks her so quick that it totally scares the dog and Emma seems quite proud of herself for doing it. That keeps the dog away from her for quite awhile so it seems to be working out great.

Emma and Molly
Emma and Molly

She is getting more and more confident everyday and every day she does something new. The other afternoon she was sitting up on the kitchen counter just looking around. She really enjoys watching the T.V. in the living room that has the camera on all the foster cats downstairs. (Ed.note: Bev fosters cats for MEOW.)She has discovered that she can lay on the scratching post (with Molly of course) catch all the sun in the morning and watch the T.V. all at the same time. Quite the multi-tasker!!

We are enjoying her so much and really can't believe she has become the cat she is. She is so sweet we feel so lucky to have her.

Here are a few pictures to show her off. Yes, I will have to clean that window!

Bye for now,
Bev

Dear MEOW,

My name is Ari and I'm writing to tell you how I'm doing! My new family decided to keep my original MEOW name. At first, they wanted to call me something else, but while they were thinking they kept calling me Ari, and after a while it stuck!

I'm the youngest cat in the family, but that's not a bad thing! I have three new cat buddies and they're like my big brothers. I get along well with all of them and I'm never lonely when the people are out at work or school. I've included a picture of me and Koko hanging out together.

Ari and Koko
Ari and Koko

When the people are around, I love to follow them around the house! I get groomed lots and love every minute of it. When they're sitting at their desks, I love wiggling in behind them and taking a snooze. And when I want to play, I make them play with me! They keep all my toys in a drawer in the kitchen, so whenever they walk near the drawer, I climb all over their legs and beg for my toys! Of course, my voice is irresistible, so they play with me several times a day!

My real mommy is also a MEOW cat by the name Muezza. I'm happy that Mommy made it onto the Shy Cats list, and I hope she can find a good home soon! If you can, please tell Mommy that I'm doing fine and that she shouldn't worry about me!

Kumi

Last but not least, here is Kumi (MEOW name Dayton) again. He's too lazy to write, but he wants you to know that he's doing very well too.

Thank you MEOW for helping me find a great home!

March 22, 2007

Dear MEOW folks:

This is just a quick update to let you know that Abby (MEOW name Florabelle) and McGee (MEOW name Danny) are settling in nicely to their new home, with their new brother, Gibbs. As you can tell, we love NCIS and CSI, as well as all Law and Order TV shows. TV Abby is very cute but somewhat weird in her own way, same for our new Abby. TV McGee is the Probie, kind and understanding, same as our new McGee.

McGee
McGee

It took McGee only 2 days, and now he and Gibbs play fight and chum around like brothers. Abby is a wee bit more cautious of the 2 boys; she holds her own and let's them know who is the boss.

They all love to chase the laser lights and play ball. They also love their mice and numerous other toys. The whole family loves to smell the fresh spring time air at their favorite open window, watching the birds outside ... especially when Daddy fills the bird feeders.

Gibbs

Gibbs

They also love to watch the water fill and drain the tub, and Gibbs is teaching them both how to get up on the counter and drink from the tap. I think that we may have to purchase a larger bed, as all 3 of the little ones want to sleep with Mom and Dad.

We want to thank all of you at MEOW for giving us these precious gifts. We will keep you informed of the progress of our new family.

Bruno
Bruno

March 15, 2007

Dear MEOW:

I wanted to give you an update on our two MEOW cat household. When we brought Bruno home last February we knew he was a perfect fit for our family. After an initial adjustment period getting used to the noise of our household Bruno easily fell into the everyday rhythm. During the day if he wasn't sunning himself in front of the window he was visiting with my husband in his home office and at night he might be enjoy a late night play session with the teenagers. I have to say he is the most polite, appreciative cat I have ever seen. He doesn't beg or plead for food but quietly waits in front of his dish. He doesn't demand attention but will softly walk by looking for a scratch on the cheek or a rub on the head. On a cold night he can be found curled up on an occupied bed quietly purring. He has bonded with the men in our family and stands tall on his hind legs to reach their hands for a scratch behind the ear. Bruno spends most days surveying his back yard full of birds and squirrels from his chair at the head of the dining room table. He is content to do his own thing but joins in with the family during quiet times of homework at the kitchen table or lounging on the top of the couch during TV times. Wondering if Bruno might be bored we starting thinking about the idea of another cat. Maybe a younger playmate would liven things up? It was so easy to integrate Bruno into our household we decided to rescue another cat.

Squeak
Squeak

Thank you so much for steering us in the direction of Squeak (MEOW name Flora). She was such a funny looking shy kitten when we first met her I really wondered if she was the kitten for us. When we first brought her home Bruno would leave the room every time she walked in. Secretly I think he was hoping she would be gone when he came back. He was never mean or territorial towards her. In the first few weeks he let her take all his toys, food and special bed. She followed him everywhere 24 hours a day for weeks on end. As she grew bigger she got bolder and would tackle his giant frame to get a friendly wrestling match going. He would lie there and allow her to try all her best moves until he had had enough. Then he would send her running with just one look. Bruno has gotten more playful and enjoys the wrestling sessions now and will often initiate them. Squeak is silly and unpredictable rolling off tables and chairs in the midst of wild play sessions. She chases and retrieves toys like a dog. When she is bored she will bring toys to anyone who is willing to play. She loves a warm lap to sleep in and has a purr that can be heard several rooms away. Although she has learned to make her own fun she still bats Bruno's tail as he walks by, hides around corners and jumps out at him and tries to get him engaged in play. While they are very different in nature they have been about to work out a friendship that suits the both of them.

As you can see in the pictures Bruno is shiny, fat and happy and Squeak, once the ugly duckling, is now a sleek, beautiful lady.

Thanks again for helping us finding a wonderful pair of cat companions.

Robin

Nyo and Madden

Smiling for the camera

March 3, 2007

Dear MEOW:

Thought it was about time we shared some photos of our kitties. Their new life started off a bit awkward, Nyo (MEOW name Esther) was not very sociable and would hide whenever people came to the house. Now she meows and purrs very loud so that everyone can hear. Madden fit in right away, loving the fact that he had another kitty to play with.

Nyo has put on some weight so we can't call her skinny kitty anymore. Madden has lost a little bit, but not so much that we still can't call him fat kitty.

Madden
Puzzle time for Madden

We now have five people living in our house, so the cats love all the attention that they get because there is never a time when they are alone.

Thank you so much for helping me choose the perfect cats for our house and our personalities. I couldn't wish for better and I wouldn't change them for the world.

Natalie and Catlyn

Edie
Edie

February 28, 2007

Dear MEOW,

Hard to believe but it has been a year since Edie (short for Edith) arrived at my house. As some of you will remember (Erin and Doug for sure) those first few minutes were a near disaster and I have a couple of small scars to prove it. However I recall at the time I said it wasn’t really Edie's fault so she should stay the night, and we'd go from there. Needless to say it worked out. She is my constant companion following me to whatever part of the house I am in. As I write this she is sleeping in a meow cat bed on the extra chair in the office next to me.

Her favourite things are, the red dot from the laser pointer, any crunched up piece of paper, twist ties (she checks the kitchen counters for them and swipes them should one accidentally be left out, of course you will never actually witness this event, but find her chasing and throwing around the evidence later), playing hide and seek, or just running full speed through the house.

She owns the house these days, and although we have the spray bottle of discipline (which elicits the most indignant meow you've ever heard when pointed in her direction) we're still working on not clawing the furniture, or jumping on the counters, or table. (She thinks the red dot on the motion sensor is the laser pointer sometimes and tries to get as close to it as possible – i.e. jump on the table). She is one of those highly intelligent cats that knows that you can get away with it if no one sees you. She also uses things like clawing the window screen when she really wants my attention. (It's kind of like having a toddler at times).

The favourite place to sleep is in my lap. This is how most evenings are spent, and any other time she can convince me to sit in the brown chair. If I'm not there then it's either the meow bed on my bed, or the one in the office. She just loves them; she cuddles up in one on my bed as soon as I crawl in at night. Lately she has been trying to get me to let her under the covers, and of course you can only take so may paw tugs on the bedding in the early morning before you relent.

She is certainly not shy; when the doorbell rings she comes to greet whoever has arrived. Someday I am sure this will prove hazardous to her health, because she likes to stick her head in the empty shoe of the visitor to see how they smell.

I've include a couple of photos of her, relaxing in the cat bed, rolling over on (and sometimes off) the window perch, and stretched out in my lap. You may notice that she lost all of her white whiskers as she got a bit older, so she looks a bit different.

Thanks again,
Heather

Dear MEOW;

I just wanted to share some pictures of Copper with you (MEOW name Corelli).

Copper has been at our home for only a week and as you can see, he has bonded with our children, Puff the tortoiseshell, and especially Jay.

Copper
Copper likes to be with the kids..

Boo our senior cat still needs to warm up to Copper a little more, but is tolerant and willing to share his space (and tuna juice) with him.

Copper is the sweetest cat I have ever owned, and purrs almost constantly. We adore him.

Larik and Uma
Larik and Uma

February 19, 2007

Dear MEOW,

We would like to tell you a story about Larik (MEOW name Durango) and Uma (MEOW name Magnolia). It started in March 2006 when we lost our beloved cat of 17 years to old age. We were heartbroken but even then we knew that we would definitely have cats in our house again.

A few months later we really felt that we were ready to look for new kittens. We were hoping to adopt either an orange tabby or a tortie, even though those were preferences rather than strict criteria. What mattered more is that the kittens touched our hearts and really felt like "our cats".

At first, the kittens that we were looking at were all being adopted by people in line before us, until we went to see Jolie’s litter that had 4 orange tabby boys, 2 black girls and a very dark, almost black, tortie. We were very excited about seeing wonderful orange boys that we were ready to take two of them, (Durango being one of the two). To tell you the truth, at first we didn’t even look at the girls.

While we were busy looking at the boys, our daughter was playing with Magnolia, a little tortie girl. When we asked her which of the kittens she liked the best, from the look in her eyes we knew that she would not leave without Magnolia. So we had to pick one of the boys, and we decided on Durango as the fluffiest and the most curious of them.

From the moment when they arrived home on August 9, 2006, which happened to be Alexey’s Birthday, they were surrounded with all the love and care they could handle. The photo above is what they looked like …

Larik, or Durango, has proven to be the more active of the two and quickly earned a title of a daredevil, while Uma, or Magnolia, decided to work on her "princess" skills.

Larik and Uma
Larik and Uma

With lots of attention and games, they blossomed into two amazing cats. Larik is now a gorgeous fluffy cuddle bug (who also picked up cross-stitching) and Uma is a striking beauty with the eyes as green as emeralds who appreciates being admired. Here they are now.

We would like to thank MEOW for giving us an opportunity to share our lives with these two wonderful cats. They truly are a part of our family and it is hard to imagine them not being with us.

We would also like to share some good news: our daughter, who now owns her own house, adopted two MEOW kittens (Clothilde and a shy kitten Effy) in December, 2006. Their adoption was recently finalized, so you can expect to see another happy story shortly!

Sincerely,
Alexey and Elena

Phoebe and Cinnamon
Phoebe grooming Cinnamon on the very first day

February 16, 2007

Hello,

I adopted Kassie from MEOW on August 1, 2005. I thought I would share some pictures and details since she became a part of our household. To begin with, we re-named her Phoebe and moved into a two-storey apartment in the fall of 2005. She coolly avoided the stairs until I carried her up and down to show her what they were. At around the same time a co-worker of mine announced that one of her neighbors in Strathmore was stuck with 17 kittens on his farm and please, please did anyone want one? I had discussed this with my fiancé before as I felt Phoebe was a little lonely with just humans in the home. So we went for it and rescued Cinnamon and they look almost identical even though they aren’t related.

Phoebe adopted Cin as her baby immediately. In the picture, it shows Phoebe vigorously grooming Cin on the very first day. She still does it now even though Cin has grown to be longer and taller than she is. It is so cute to watch her groom a bigger cat! She also refused to eat her dinner until Cin had eaten her fill and still does it somewhat to this day. Currently, she will eat at the same time but only if Cin has begun in the dish next to her.

In short, she is a joy to have and a complete part of our family. Thank-you MEOW for giving me the opportunity to have her in my life and for giving so many sweet cats a second chance. I check in on the site often and on a side-note, I am really glad to see that Nubbin and Rowen finally got adopted! Thanks again!

Stephanie

Chewy and Charlie
Chewy and Charlie

February 15, 2007

Hello MEOW,

Our family adopted Charlie (MEOW name Charlie-Lou) and Chewy ( MEOW name Georgie-Ann). They are doing wonderfully in our home. Chewy is the shy one but now comes to us to be petted and will snuggle next to us while watching movies on the couch. Charlie comes in our room every morning for a snuggle. She is the most cuddly cat I've ever known. They both love to nap on our daughter's loft bed and follow me every where I go in the house. Chewy is starting to trust us more and more and has now found her way to both of our laps. We thought it best to let her come to us when she was ready and yesterday, for the first time, she curled up in my husband's lap and today she graced mine twice!

My home office is in the basement and the minute they hear me going down the stairs, they follow suit. No glass of water is safe in our house now as they both love to drink my water straight from the glass. They have trained me to drink from a bottle now.

Chewy gives Charlie a bath
Chewy gives Charlie a bath

We have had a few trials as well. They both liked to jump up on the counter and table but they have trained us to keep all food off the countertops. Charlie apparently loves banana bread as one morning we came into the kitchen to find the plastic bag it was in, completely shreaded and a 5" hole eaten in the loaf. Chewy enjoys ice cream cones - I baked them with cake batter in them for my little girl's 5th birthday and, as they were cooling, Chewy ate holes in the cone part off of 2 conescakes! Apparently they both enjoy my baking! They are learning to stay off the counter and tabletop when we say "no" firmly. Charlie also likes to shred the edges of the garbage bag in the can and Chewy likes to lick photographs.

They have taught us just as much as we have taught them. They are a wonderful addition to our home and I can't imagine not having them. They love to sleep on the back of our couch and rest a paw on my husband's head - I'm trying to get a picture of it - it is sooo cute! Chewy gets carried around by my daughter and has even endured wearing a tiara on a couple of occasions. She is so patient with her littlest owner.

We spent a considerable amount of time deciding where we should adopt from and how many cats and all that it would involve - the whole "free" kittens verses adoption fees chart was a real eye-opener and we found your website provided answers to lots of our questions and even information we hadn't thought of. Our adoption consultant was wonderful (Laura) she was so patient in answering all our questions and concerns and made to whole experience great.

I believe that cats pick an owner just as owners pick cats and I'm sure if the girls could talk, they would tell you that they have us firmly wrapped around their paws!

Thank you for allowing us the opportunity of adopting 2 of the sweetest furbabies in the whole world!

Sincerely,
Kari

Francesca

February 9, 2007

Dear MEOW;

Hi there, I just wanted to thank everyone at MEOW for giving us the opportunity to meet such a sweet little soul in Francesca.  For those of you who don’t know the details, Francesca was adopted as a buddy for my 14 year old cat, Harley.  Francesca is trying very hard to become friends with Harley but he’s had some emotional problems that I’m working on with Karen’s (of MEOW) help.  I feel that Francesca will be instrumental in helping him deal with his issues, I’ve already noticed the change in him.

Francesca
Francesca watching "kitty TV"

Now for the update on Francesca herself.  She is settling in to her new home nicely.  She enjoys playing with the laser, her mice on strings, feathers on dowels, and of course her remote control car.  Every little thing she does is cause for a lot of celebration and some tears of joy in our house.  She rubbed against my leg for the first time this morning and I cried.  She’s learning that we are only there to love her and care for her every need.  I’m extremely happy we found her, she is truly a blessing for our house.

Thank you so much,
Eileen

Bella
Bella and friend

February 7, 2007

Hello MEOW!

I just wanted to update you on Bella (MEOW name Cara).

We have renamed Cara to Bella and she is a wonderful addition to our home. Everything is working out, better than planned! On the first night here, Crema (my old girl) was very excited - in a good way - to meet Bella; I let them sniff each other and then they ended up sitting in the same room under my supervision for about 2 hours ... there was an occasional hiss by Bella but other than that, not too much to worry about! They just stared at each other and tried to figure out the new situation. The first night Bella was not too happy and cried a lot, but the second night was much different - she slept right on my face and purred all night!!

For the next few days, Bella stayed mainly in her cat room and had quite a few, short supervised visits by Crema. They started to play with the feather toys almost immediately - with one kitty on one end and the other kitty on the other end. After this adjustment, Bella was feeling more adventurous and decided to come out of her room and check out the house. Within a day, she had discovered every nook and cranny and took an immediate "love" to Crema. From the 5th or so day on, Bella has followed Crema around, nonstop. Bella copies everything that Crema does and Crema just loves her! They have been having little naps together and for the last few nights, I have woken up with Crema on my chest (where she always sleeps) and Bella curled up half on Crema and half on me.

Since we introduced Bella and Crema, with the exception of a few hisses, there have been no problems. Crema and Bella play quite a bit, running around the house and with the toys and no matter what, Crema has not shown any aggression! I am so pleased!! As well, Crema is seeming so much happier and is "back to her normal self" - I think she was bored and lonely! As well, Crema still attacks the window where a big visiting cat comes by most nights, yet has embraced Bella! Even more exciting is when Bella went for her booster shot on Sunday ... both of them seemed so worried that they were being separated and when I got home with Bella they "kissed" and started to play right away.

Bella has been a sweetie and has a great personality! As well, she has used the litter box perfectly since moving it!

Thanks Brenda for finding us Bella!

Fonzie

Fonzie

February 4, 2007

Dear MEOW Foundation,

Let me tell you how lucky I am. My name is Fonzie. I am a 6 months old MEOW kitty and I was adopted in December by this fabulous family. My new home is fun; we play games all the time and I enjoy the company of my new friend, a female Border Collie who is completely obsessed with me. She follows me everywhere, I wonder why?

Here is why I am so lucky ... 4 days ago, I found something on the bathroom counter, a cute little toy which I had never seen before. It had a shiny needle on the end of a long piece of thread and I thought, wow, what a wonderful toy this is. Well, 15 minutes later I am feeling not so good because something sharp is inside my belly;  I could feel it poking me and my owners are very upset. One of them is crying and the other is trying to look inside my mouth. Before I knew it, I was inside the pet carrier on the way to the 24-hour pet clinic. They took photos of my insides, if you know what I mean, then after that I don’t remember anything until I woke up with my belly all shaved and quite sleepy.

Fonzie with shaved belly

Fonzie suns shaved belly

I guess the vet told my owners that I had swallowed a sewing needle with the thread and all. It went all the way down to my stomach. Amazingly, I am alright today. I even had a sun bath this afternoon as you can see on this picture, but please, no laughing at my shaved belly.

So, all the cat owners out there, please put your sewing kits away, far away from cats like me.

Fonzie

Cheyenne

Cheyenne

January 26, 2007

Dear MEOW,

My name is Cheyenne (MEOW name Varuca), and I used to live with my mommy and my sisters and brother under some stairs as my owners moved away without us. Now I have a new family, and two new sisters and where I live beats living under those stairs in the dirt!

I think this is some kind of palace and I've become a princess. The two big people I live with are my slaves - they bring me treats and toys and play with me if I look bored. They always massage me, and stroke my soft fur. And they start-up these bright orange flames that are really fun to stretch out and lie in front of, that make me all warm and tingly all over. Yes, I think I have done all right for myself. There are wand toys (with bells and everything) and stuffed mice that I can pretend are real and drag all over the house (hey, don't knock it till you've tried it, it's TONS of fun). The food rocks, not that there was anything wrong with Mommy's milk, but I'm a little bigger now and can eat crunchy treats and tuna, and I do think that's rather befitting for the princess I have become.

The best part is my slaves always talk to me and love it when I keep them company, so I follow them all over the house, and I find Q-tips to play with, jewelry to bat around, leftover wrapping paper to crawl under, soft round kitty size beds to sleep in, and great big paper shopping bags for me to crawl into, big wide ledges for me to sit on and smell fresh air coming in through the windows ... it's a pretty nice palace, I must say ... yup, I think I've done all right for myself!

With Love,
Her Royal Highness Princess Cheyenne/Varuca

Melicat and Laptop

Laptop and Melicat

Hi Brenda & the MEOW Foundation family;

Thought you might like to see a few images of one of your favorite girls Melicat (MEOW name Buttons) and how she has bonded with her big brother, Laptop. They love an unmade bed!

Thanks for all your help, Brenda, and thanks to the MEOW Foundation for helping me find the purrfect addition to my family.

You wouldn’t believe it from this photo but for the first three months Laptop was not enamored with Melicat at all. In fact they divided their territories so that she took the upstairs and he got the downstairs, and if he ventured forth Melicat dive bombed him from the stair railing.

Thanks, Marilyn

Dear MEOW,

Just thought we'd let you know the kittens are doing great. We love them so much and they are great pals.

Of course they are into everything and training has been a challenge, but that's all part of owning kittens.

Thanks again for all your help in finding these two for us.

Sincerely, Jacquie, Richard, Megan, Logan,
"Willow" (MEOW Lucille) & "Kit-Cat" (MEOW Pantoufle)

Dear MEOW,

Hi it's me Kedi (MEOWname: Andrea). I just wanted to drop you a line and let you know that I have been in my new home for almost 3 months and I'm settling in very well. As you know, I'm a very, very shy girl and it has taken me some time to know that I won't be moved again so I'm starting to trust and love someone (I wanted to so badly). My new owner loves me very much and has won me over with lots and lots of quiet time, soft voices and plenty of Temptations (I'm sending a picture of her feeding me my treats by hand) and tuna (love tuna!) I love all my toys, especially my new honeysuckle and catnip blanket. At times, I roll it up between my legs and kick and kick and kick and other times I lay quietly upon it contemplating life and having a catnap (hey, I'm a cat!).

KediI am learning to sit still when my owner cuts my nails. I adore having my fur brushed (especially my cheeks and head) so I repay my owner with lots of purring and head butts. I love getting kitty kisses on my head too! My favourite time is at night, when my owner calls me onto the bed and I get a hairbrush before settling into the crook of her arm to go to sleep.

I'm still a little jumpy but everyday gets better. My owner tells me I'm a very good girl. I even walk around with my tail in the air sometimes. I'm really starting to like being picked up (I don't run away anymore, well, not as much as did when I first got here) and I've discovered I have a voice and talk to my new owner when she talks to me. Who knew life could be this good? So thank you MEOW for taking such good care of me until she could find me.

Remember, that saving one cat won't change the world ... but surely, the world will change for that one cat.

Purrfectly happy,
Kedi
(By the way, my name means "cat" in Turkish.)

Dear MEOW,

I want to thank you guys (especially Brenda) for giving us Charlie (MEOW name Silver). He is such a wonderful little guy (naughty but nice!). The first night he was here it was like he was home. The first thing he did was head butt me and then he was all over me like he knew me all his life!

He likes to spend his days creeping out of the dark and freaking out our three-year-old cat Angel (I am surprised she has not had a heart attack yet!). Then jumping on her and the wrestling begins.

After, he comes over and gives both my fiancé and I a head butt and then it's nap time. Angel hopes that Charlie will calm down soon so she can groom him without him thinking she wants to wrestle.

Well here are some pictures of Charlie & Angel.

Dear MEOW,

Hello and all the best to all creatures two-legged and four-legged at MEOW!

We are writing to thank everyone at MEOW from the bottom of our hearts for the best Christmas present ever: our adopted darling Sonny Boy (formerly Pierson), who came to live with us on November 28, 2006. Right from the very first night, Sonny Boy found his spot on the sofa (middle cushion) and on our bed (at our feet). He's been enjoying his southwest facing window perch and an incredible amount of love and attention from everyone since then, including a very generous Santa, who brought Sonny many fun (and some noisy!) cat toys. Our lives are filled with Sonny days and nights thanks to this sometimes nutty but always adorable cat!

Purrs to all at MEOW for such good work!

Leigh-Ann, Nigel, & Sonny Boy

Jasper, Brody and Dizzle

Dear MEOW:

Well, it looks like my three new kittens have taken up the life of Riley.

The first picture includes a snapshot of the mob members Brody up front, Dizzle to the left and fatso Jasper (MEOW name Atticus) to the right.  Note their casual appearance!

The second is their wonton destruction of an owner’s household property ...  Each teenager proclaimed their innocence!

The last is the most gruesome, for it involves the destruction (fur totally ripped off and tail chewed off) and the murder (multiple stabbings) of a poor innocent creature (a poor toy mouse) ...  This picture is not for the faint of heart!

In other words, Jasper (aka Atticus) is doing just fine in his new home with his adopted brothers.

Dear MEOW,

Merry Christmas to you all.

I’ve been very happy since I left the shelter. My new home is very comfy and warm. It has everything a cat could want. Mom and Grandma give me lots of love and attention. I am one pampered kitty.

When I first moved in at Easter I was still feeling pretty sick. Luckily my new family cuddled me until I got better. Thank you MEOW for taking me in and getting me to the doctor so quickly. I would have surely perished if you hadn’t. I will always be grateful to you. My mom and grandma are grateful too. They really love me. My mom says that Grandma is feeling so much better since I arrived. I take good care of my Grandma. I guess she was lonely before I came along.

I’m really looking forward to the holidays. Mom is taking time off work and she will be home with us. We are going to have a lot of fun. We can play all day.

Mom had my pictures taken so I could send out my very own Christmas cards. I want you to know that the red feather boa was her idea, not mine.  I love her but sometimes I just have to shake my head.

I wish the cats a very Merry Christmas. I hope you will all find new homes very soon. I know MEOW will make sure your wish for a new wonderful home will be fulfilled.

Thank you MEOW for taking care of me.

MEOW for now,
Baby (MEOW name Speranza)

Dear MEOW,

I am writing this letter to let you all know how lucky we feel to be Waylon's family.  He has quite a personality that blossoms more each day. He entertains us with his chatting, says hello to everyone in the morning, and is loving and affectionate all day long. In just 5 weeks, he has enriched our lives and made this Christmas a very special one. Thank you all for your hard work ... bringing cats from out og the cold and into a warm and loving home ... I think Waylon would like to say Thank you too!

Sincerely, Rosie, John, Alec and Brendan

Panther and Callie

Panther and Callie

December 29, 2006

Dear MEOW,

Our two new family members Panther and Callie (MEOW name Nermal) are truly fabulous kittens. Although they are rambunctious at times, they are extremely affectionate and enjoy cuddling and loving. The adoption was finalized a week ago, but the kittens are like they have always been here. They adjusted quickly and are a perfect match for our home.

We had our previous cat Marvin for 13 years and he died quite suddenly of liver failure. This left a large void in our lives, one you helped fill.

Everyone at MEOW was great and made the process a breeze. You took an interest in seeing we were properly matched and showed an honest concern for the well being and placement of both kittens. Thanks for everything. You have helped us once again find the love of furry friends.
